It has been over a quarter-century since the Puryear sisters came home from school to discover the tragedy that would leave its fingerprints on everything they did for the rest of their lives. The two girls, as well as their older brother, would go on to develop into vastly different people over the following decades as they came to terms with their childhood. The relative peace is shattered when Matthew Puryear, the children's father, is released from prison with a weakening grasp of reality, after years of making veiled threats against his children. Although Matthew will be spending the beginning of his freedom in a halfway house in another part of the state, there is nothing to keep him from eventually returning home, if he so desires. Within a week of his release, Matthew has vanished without a trace. More disappearances soon follow, and the police find themselves searching for missing people on multiple fronts. Are all of the disappearances related? Are the sisters in danger? Nobody knows for sure, but to be safe, the police move the Puryear sisters into a safe house while they try to account for all of the missing people. They will not be there long before the situation comes to a head.

Jerk Chicken Chronicles is the story of a diverse group of characters traveling together through Central America. Some are hardened adventurers while others are making their first such trip, though none of them have been to Central America before. A death midway through the trip causes temporary chaos but does not end the adventure for the rest of the group. From touring Mayan ruins, to white water rafting, to ziplining through a cloud forest, the story highlights the comradery, conflict and tragedy experienced by strangers who volunteer to spend a month together in close quarters in an unfamiliar location. Added to the mix are a lot of alcohol, a little bit of drugs, and just enough sex to keep things interesting. Jerk Chicken Chronicles is a humorous look at a trip through Central America and its participants that should appeal to anyone who has ever taken, or has ever contemplating taking, an adventurous trip to an unfamiliar part of the world.
