22 August 1485. Henry Tudor lay dead. The Battle of Bosworth was over and King Richard III rode into Leicester in triumph with the cheers of the people ringing in his ears. Elated at his victory and relieved that the Lancastrian threat to his throne was no more, he could now concentrate on ruling a country at peace.Though he still mourned his beloved wife who had died earlier that year, Richard realised that he must next make a suitable marriage to provide an heir to ensure the succession. After his return to Westminster, he discovered the truth of what had befallen his two nephews, the so-called Princes in the Tower, clearing him of any involvement.This is the story of what could have happened if Richard had been victorious at Bosworth. There would have been no tyrannical Tudors and no dissolution of the monasteries. Instead, England would have enjoyed years of peace and prosperity with enlightened laws that benefited the ordinary people in the reign of Good King Richard, loved by all who knew him.

My family. A rich tapestry of characters and events both past and present ranging from my poetic mother, my father, funny and serious in turn and politically aware, to other family members and their friends, heroes, villains and the downright eccentrics who entertained us with their antics. Not forgetting the Tobys, the family dogs all given numbers, Toby number one, two, etc. Our homes were located in such diverse places as 'Scabbyhills' and the 'Debtor's Retreat' and our spooky haunted house. There were sad times, also. Ill health, unemployment, and the scandal of illegitimacy that almost split the family, but the goods times outweighed the bad. Who we are today, we owe to our ancestors. Those stoical farmers and hand loom weavers stretching back to the early seventeenth century in Cheshire who left their rural homes for a future life in industrial nineteenth century Lancashire. This is their story.

The families of the ladies who married into my family have always intrigued me. From the five sisters, all leading ladies on the stage. The championship Ballroom Dancer. Those who made and lost a fortune. We have the military men, dating from the Anglo/Norman invasion of Ireland, the English Civil War through to WW2. Our Scottish branch goes back to the 16th century border rievers who terrorised the borderlands. Not forgetting those brave family members who crossed America by wagon train and helped in the founding of the states of Iowa and Utah. Our female family histories are often overlooked which is a pity because you then miss out on so many fascinating stories that help to enrich your ancestral heritage.
