The study of adolescent behaviour developed prominence post 1990 due to technological advancements, internet and mobile services. It became quite evident that the majority of morbidity and mortality during the second decade of life is behavioural in nature. The term adolescent behaviour has been linked to a number of potentially risky behaviours such as substance use, homicide and suicidal behaviour, reckless driving, delinquency and crime.
