Erzählungen Stefan Heyms aus 50 Jahren: frühe Kurzgeschichten des jungen Emigranten aus seiner Prager Zeit (1933-1935), ein Bericht aus seiner Studienzeit in Chicago, Stories aus der New Yorker Zeit (1945-1951) und Erzählungen, die in Berlin, nach der Rückkehr des Autors nach Deutschland geschrieben wurden (1956-1983). Diese Geschichten dokumentieren das Schaffen eines der großen deutschen Erzähler und streitbaren Geistes. Zugleich sind sie auch ein Spiegel der Zeit, in der sie entstanden. Es erweist sich einmal mehr, daß Stefan Heym niemals versucht hat, sich um brisante politische Themen herumzureden, daß er aber auch niemals platte Agitation betrieben, sondern Erzählungen von ganz eigener Qualität geschaffen hat.
