The corvette, HMAS Whyalla was the first vessel built and launched from the Whyalla Shipyard in 1941. After active service during World War Two, the ship became the RIP. In the 1980s it was bought by the City of Whyalla and returned to where it was built as a major part of the new Whyalla Maritime Museum, but the job of getting the ship out of the water and to its present resting place on dry land earned her the title of THE RELUCTANT LADY. I play wargames in the World War Two period in 1-100 scale, using my HEX RULES system which can be adapted from other sets of rules (basically, I play on a board marked out in hexes like a huge board game- lots of fun). But in this book I have imagined that one or more of the mayor powers in WW2 have designed and built walking tanks, such as the featured BIG BAD WOLF (the BBW). This book details the development of these machines and gives rules to use them on the battlefield alongside the existing types of tanks (T-34s, Shermans etc). I simply add a bit of difference to my WW2 battles and if you play wargames in this period and are looking for something completely different, you might enjoy coming along for the ride. You don't have to use my BBWs, any suitable walking tank model (and there are lots on the market) will do just fine. There are also other HEX RULES books available too, but this book dues contain new rules for the BBW as well as most of the existing rules. Enjoy.

I have designed a different way of playing World War Two wargames on the tabletop- using a surface marked out in HEXES (see my previous book, HEX RULES AND DISCUSSION). This second book in the series looks more closely at using aircraft, both above the Hex based gameboard and also in stand-alone games using miniatures as well as games where your model aircraft are moved across the hex gameboard on stands. Lots of new ideas for wargamers in the World War Two era including playing whole campaigns and keeping track of individual pilots.

Many World War Two wargamers use 1-100 scale figures and vehicles such as FLAMES OF WAR. What I've done here is to present a new set of rules for that scale, but fighting my battles on a HEX BASED table top. There are several advantages to this method: for example it reduces most of the need to measure range and movement (you simply count off the number of hexes). Here are tables for all types of weapons and troop types. I admit that it can be a lot of work converting your scenery to hexes, but it can result in a more enjoyable and fast-moving game. It's well worth a look. Here are the basic rules in a 32 page book, but there is also these same rules with an additional 'discussion' section with more of the background to the rules. I seem to have collected over the years a fine collection of various sets of rules. Here's another to add to your collection.
