This little guide with its large-print format is designed to make it as easy as possible for visitors to London to self-guide themselves around enchanting and quirky places away from tourist hotspots and queues. The author, who has known London for years, is now partly disabled so the suggested attractions take this into consideration. Discover where Geoffrey Chaucer eked out his pension, where William Caxton had his shop, where the founder of Maryland was buried, what John Wesley did in the winter, plus where some of the finest seventeenth century frescoes in London, William Morris creations and Art Deco inspirations can be seen, in totally unexpected places.
Elizabeth Baker's Diary 1778 - 1786
This diary is a wonderful source for eighteenth century women's history and for life in a small town in rural Wales recorded by an English exile. It is rare for anyone described as abjectly poor by her contemporaries to keep a diary but Elizabeth Baker's excellent education gave her status and value in her community. She has been described as a snob who had, as she liked to recall, dined with aristocrats in her London life, but living as she did on a level with the poor, she wrote of them with immense sympathy and understood how circumstances beyond their control could lead them to fall into the pit of poverty. Her pen could be occasionally malicious, recording the foibles of her neighbours in Dolgellau, and it is invaluable for anyone researching their family history in Merioneth.

Sue Passmore is well-known as a maritime historian (Welsh Sail and Farmers & Figureheads) and she has now turned her attention with equal zest to the countryside. Like her Llanllwchaearn: a parish history, Llanina & Cytblwyf is crammed with original research. Having previously set the parish of Llanllwchaearn in its historical context which is also applicable to Llanina & Cytblwyf, she has not repeated that information but adopted a novel approach, appropriate to their history. But like Llanllwchaearn, this book with its comprehensive Gazetteer of farms and smallholdings, will be an invaluable resource for family as well as local historians.
MEDIAEVAL ANCESTORS OF THE HOUSE OF PENIARTH Part 1
Volume III is divided into two parts which cover the mediaeval ancestors of the family at Peniarth recorded in Volume II and the wives who married into the family. Part I contains a chapter on Ednywain ap Bradwen, ancestor of Gruffudd ab Aron; Chapter II traces the ancestry of his mother Gwenllian; Chapter III traces the descendants of the Lord Rhys ap Gruffudd, several of whom feature in Chapter II, and especially the ancestry of the Griffiths family of Cefnamlwch, whose descendant Annes married David ap William of Peniarth; Chapter IV traces the family's descent from Llywelyn ab Iorwerth, Llywelyn Fawr, through the Barons of Edeirnion, and the families at Corsygedol and Nannau to Elizabeth of Ynysymaengwyn who married William ap John of Peniarth.
Mediaeval Ancestors of the House of Peniarth Part 2
Vol 3 of my father's family history. Vol I Bronwylfa a House and its Family, the history of the family from the 17th century when Elizabeth Owen of Peniarth married John Lloyd of Gwyddfryniau, to the present day. Vol II Peniarth 1400-1667 tells the story of Gruffudd ab Aron who founded Peniarth down to his descendant Margaret Owen, Elizabeth's mother, heiress of Peniarth, who died in 1667. Vol III has been divided into 2 Parts, but the whole Vol covers the mediaeval ancestry of the family at Peniarth before 1400. Part I covers the descent of Gruffudd ab Aron from Ednywain ap Bradwen and the ancestry of his wife Gwenllian; Chapter III, the family's links with Yr Arglwydd Rhys, Lord Rhys ap Gruffudd; and chapter 4 the family's descent from Llywelyn Fawr, Llywelyn ab Iorwerth. Part II tells of our ancestor Rhirid Flaidd; the ancestry of Owain Glyndwr, from whose sister Lowri we descend, the Pulestons of Emral, Royal ancestors of Duke Humphrey of Gloucester, and the families of Bohun, Fitzalan and Mortimer.

A new edition of this classic and pioneering work, with 85 often rare and remarkable photographs. Welsh Sail tells the story of the shipbuilders, ship-owners and ports of Wales. Originally published in 1976, the author travelled to all the ports and harbours of Wales, explored archives and drew on the knowledge of Captains and sailors and their descendants. It contains vivid first hand accounts from some perilous voyages and brings home the hardships and the rewards of working the seas. There are sea mysteries, wrecks, tragedy and remarkable rescues, with some breath-taking first hand accounts. Now revised and updated.

My first history of Llanllwchaearn parish appeared in 2010, since then I have written the histories of all the other parishes in the commote, Llanina & Cytblwyf, Llannarth, Llangrannog and Llandysiliogogo and have widened the scope of my researches to include houses as well as farms and more family history along with the history of the landscape. In the process I acquired much more information about Llanllwchearn families, and the time now seems right for a second edition with a larger and much more detailed gazetteer of dwellings including Cross Inn and Nanternis. This new book has over 200 additional pages of family history and many more photographs.

The Streets of New Quay relates the history of every house built here before 1960 and includes references to later houses where they appear in the village. The area encompassed is that of the old Urban District Council. This history of New Quay's growth from a tiny handful of fishermen's and coastguards' cottages has never been traced so thoroughly. There are many new discoveries as a result of this detailed study . It is very exciting to see vanished houses re-emerge both in their history and in old photographs, the majority of which have never before been published.

The Owen family occupied Penparc farm near Cwm Tydu from 1793 until the twentieth century. Thomas Owen, the first, and his wife Margaret, daughter of Ysgubor Fawr, Llwyndafydd, were ardent Nonconformists and Thomas helped to establish Capelwig. His grandson, Thomas Owen, became a mariner and founded his own family at Foel and has many descendants world-wide. They were a typical family of their era and area in that they combined farming and seafaring. Thomas's sons, sons-in-law and grandsons all went to sea, serving with Canadian Pacific and Evan Thomas Radcliffe of Cardiff among other companies. One rescued 52 people from the Lusitania. Some have settled in Australia, Canada and America. But the family links remain strong today and so does their attachment to their roots.

Volume II of our family history continues the story begun in Bronwylfa: a house and its family, which covered the 17th to the 20th centuries. This second book begins in 1400 and ends in 1667 with the death of Margaret Owen, our last direct ancestor to live at Peniarth. It starts with the builder of Peniarth, Griffith ab Aron, and chronicles the family's adventures in the very dangerous centuries which followed, especially the fifteenth century when they were personally involved with Owain Glyndwr's rebellion, Agincourt, the Wars of the Roses and the many conspiracies which preceded Henry VII's succession to the British throne. The sixteenth century saw them suspected of Catholic sympathies, and in the seventeenth century they fell foul of the Parliamentary government, while, however, producing a Puritan preacher admired by Oliver Cromwell, and Hugh Owen, the "Apostle of the North".

The ancient manor of Caerwedros included five parishes: Llanllwchaearn, Llanina & Cytblwyf, Llannarth, Llangrannog and Llandysiliogogo; this history is the fifth and final book and completes the history of the manor, which Sue Passmore began with Llanllwchaearn: a parish history, published in 2010. A brief Introduction, setting the background to the parish and its inhabitants is followed by a gazetteer of farms and cottages from their earliest known history to the mid-twentieth century. Like her other histories, it is crammed with original research and should prove an invaluable resource for those interested in both local and family history. There are many illustrations.

In Miniature Mania (Part I) I told the story of half my collection of Dollshouses and miniatures and, as my son said, the ink was scarcely dry on that when I was asked about Part II. So here it is. This part of the collection is more eclectic, and includes more recent examples of houses, as indeed Valerie Jackson Douet does in her Dollhouses: A Collectors' Guide. I have also been influenced by a wonderful Museum of Childhood near Llangeler on the Cardiganshire border, and over many years of visits we have been fascinated by the toys representing decades of childhood, up to the present day. I hope this will be enjoyed as much as Part I which Celia Thomas of KTminiatures described as a gem and an inspiration.
