Portland Homicide Detective Kara Bandini is a hunter. She grew up tracking and killing Cougar with her Uncle Jim in the barren wastes of the Jackson County backcountry. When assigned a Jane Doe found on the Ross Island beach in the middle of the City of Roses, Kara is driven to use all her instincts to run the killers to ground. Kara's investigation searches the Willamette River and reveals a trail of gruesome murders going back decades. She is reminded of the primal law of the hunt, never let the killer circle around and hunt her. Kidnapped from the police garage, suspended for the use of force saving the lives of two teenagers, shot at in her own home and the case closed by her Lieutenant, she knows she is on the right trail. The only way to close the case is increase the pressure on the killers.
