As a little girl, the author used to stand on the corner, wishing white people would drive down her street to see how well black people lived. She wanted them to see that the Daily News was wrong about Harlem being nothing but a crime-plagued black ghetto. When no one paid attention to her, she vowed to write a story. This is her story.
