On September 6, 2004, over Montana, a disabled alien spacecraft collides with a small plane occupied by Mallory and Lucas Strong. Lucas is killed but the alien pilot uses his advanced technology to save Mallory and inhabit Lucas's body in an attempt to elude the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), ruthlessly intent on his capture and interrogation at any cost. Despite her grief, Mallory insists on assisting the alien's flight from capture as they make their way to Lucas's rescue point near Canyonlands National Park in southern Utah. During their flight, Mallory enlists the aid of long-time friend, David Brekke, a former CIA field agent and SETI scientist, who knows better than anyone what horrifying plans AFOSI has for the peaceful alien. Mallory experiences a harrowing nightmare that drives her into Lucas's arms, a being who, less than thirty-six hour before, was her husband, and they conceive a child. Mallory's pregnancy is anything but normal, but she delivers a baby boy whom she names Adam. Adam matures rapidly, and as he becomes a young adult, is possessed of the memories of both his human and alien fathers and displays telepathic and telekinetic abilities. He begins to tell David of the extensive explorations of his extraterrestrial father during five hundred survey missions to alien solar systems in the Milky Way galaxy. Incensed by his failure to capture the fugitives, the leader of the AFOSI team, Major Martin Gates, conducts a vicious and unauthorized raid on David Brekke's elderly mother's home. The lady dies during the incursion which enrages Adam and he confronts the AFOSI team members responsible but leaves them alive with a warning which they ignore. He inadvertently leaves evidence enabling AFOSI to trace him back to the family's hideout at a ranch in central Oregon and the entire family - less Adam - is taken into custody. Adam knows that the only way to secure his family's freedom is to exchange himself for them but in a thought-provoking and surprising conclusion finds an alternative that guarantees both his family's freedom and his own.

Charlie Perkins's life seems to be looking up. He is healing well from his lethal gun battle with his nemeses, Glen Ritchey and Chip Lakin, and he has convinced National Security Agency brass that his enhanced brain functions and psionic abilities are legitimate. Why then would he even contemplate the new summons from the alien probe that has dropped down on him like a bad toothache? Curiosity is stronger than his good sense and Charlie can't help but obey the probe's command to "re-enter the unit". He survives his second visit to the probe with only a short stay in the hospital as a result, and it is the opinion of his psychologist and physician that Charlie's abilities are even stronger than they were before. He can't wait to get to work consulting for the U.S. intelligence community. Even before his security clearance comes through, Charlie discovers a spy trying to infiltrate Holloman Air Force Base and when he brings the case to the attention of the FBI in Tucson, Arizona, he inadvertently assists the investigating agent in another completely separate case The NSA sets Charlie and his best friend, Captain Pete Webber up in a house at Holloman Air Force Base in an effort to insulate Charlie from harm. Charlie falls hard for a local girl who just about makes his life perfect. Charlie is brought in to consult on a variety of potential terrorist acts until a mole at NSA divulges his existence to the Russian FSB who immediately takes action to try to bring Charlie to Moscow. After several attempts have failed to abduct Charlie, the order goes out: successfully abduct him or permanently deprive the U.S. of his services. Charlie is shot down on the street in Las Vegas, Nevada. Quick thinking by his friend, Pete Webber, gives Charlie a remote chance to survive but even if he does, his life will never be the same.

Aztecs and Aztec treasure in Arizona? Preposterous say the experts and historians . . . until archeology professor Sam Owens proves them wrong. The dreams of Carlos Grijalva, a senior shaman of the Tohono O'odham tribe, and Sam's grandfather, and an obscure journal penned by Francisco V zquez de Coronado, lead Sam to an archeological dig on sacred tribal lands. Sam finds evidence of the slaughter of an Aztec village by Coronado's conquistadores in the dig, and a cave where Coronado and his Spanish soldiers cached the treasure but never came back for it.Looters get to the treasure before Sam and his team can. Outraged, Sam traces the treasure to a warehouse in Tucson owned by an unscrupulous art broker. Thwarted in his attempt to locate the treasure, Sam turns to the FBI who search the warehouse and find the art broker and two of his henchmen murdered in spectacular fashion. They have been sacrificed in a traditional Aztec ceremony. Through Carlos's dreams, Sam learns that a wrathful Aztec god of war and sacrifice, Huitzilopochtl, has, through an Aztec talisman, co-opted another henchman and forces the criminal to do his bidding and endows him with unbelievable strength and speed. Huitzilopochtl, bent on vengeance against all those who have desecrated the treasure, adds Sam and Carlos to his list as interlopers trying to stop him and recover the treasure.As the body count rises, Sam and Carlos are the only ones who can locate Huitzilopochtl's henchman. Together, first with the FBI then the Tucson Police Department, they make attempt after attempt to apprehend the killer until he turns the tables and prey becomes the predator.

Charlie Perkins is on the horns of the worst dilemma of his young life. The Russians want him dead because of the threat his alien probe-induced psionic abilities pose; but he has found the love of his life and wants to settle down with Kelly Glisan. Doing so puts her in as much jeopardy as he is with the Russians. Charlie is eventually arrested on a Material Witness warrant from Sierra County but Kelly is kidnapped by the Russians as she tries to join him. Charlie has to escape custody to rescue her and they are again on the run. Then the alien probe demands Charlie's presence.Can Charlie hold out against the forces pursuing him?
