How will Hachiman the Cynic cope with a job that requires--gasp!--optimism?

It's summer break, andHachiman is continuing his leisurely life of solitude-until Miss Hiratsukaforces the Service Club back together to volunteer at a campground. For somereason, Hayama, Miura, and their crew of normies are there, too... Thus begins acompulsory, youthful season of fireworks, tests of courage, nighttimeconversations, and bathhouse incidents, with no escape for Hachiman. Summer isindeed a minefield for the loner...

Hachiman's summer break iscoming to a close, when Yui suddenly comes to visit his house. Not only that,but Totsuka has an invitation for him, as well as a request from a classmate--heeven runs into Yukino's sister at the fireworks festival! Hachiman is determinednot to get close to anyone or have any expectations, but even this stubbornloner can't ignore the changes occurring in his relationships with Yukino andYui...

As usual, Hachiman Hikigaya's warped personality prevents him from having any enjoyable moments of youth. The days all the seem the same until suddenly, an 'incident' occurs in class. This is a problem that no one who had any semblance of a normal high school life could solve, but if it's Hachiman, just maybe...

With this year's Culture Festival coming to aclose, the Service Club returns to their regular duty, when council president,Meguri Shiromeguri, appears! She wants Hachiman and the rest of the Service Clubto make the upcoming Sports Day a success!
