Engendering Social Policy

Engendering Social Policy

Engendering Social Policy brings new and fresh perspectives to the question of how social policy constructs gendered social relations. With the restructuring of welfare firmly back on the political agenda, in the context of a reassertion that traditional families are the backbone of society, this book raises important issues for students, academics and practitioners grappling with social policy issues at the end of the millennium.Articles in the collection draw on a diversity of theoretical and methodological perspectives engaging with issues that have vexed feminist analysts and activists over more than two decades. The collection explores how social policy constructs gendered relations, the difference/equality debate, representations and discourses of gender in social policy, the tensions and issues associated with restructuring domestic relations, and feminist alternatives to mainstream social policy solutions. The book adopts a comparative and international perspective taking on board the importance of global changes as well as illustrating its argument with practices and research from a number of countries. This book is essential reading for those interested in seriously addressing questions of gender and social policy in an international framework.
Parabolic Equations on an Infinite Strip
This book focuses on solutions of second order, linear, parabolic, partial differentialequations on an infinite strip-emphasizing their integral representation, their initialvalues in several senses, and the relations between these.Parabolic Equations on an Infinite Strip provides valuable information-previously unavailable in a single volume-on such topics as semigroup property.. . the Cauchy problem ... Gauss-Weierstrass representation . .. initial limits .. .normal limits and related representation theorems ... hyperplane conditions .. .determination of the initial measure .. . and the maximum principle. It also exploresnew, unpublished results on parabolic limits . . . more general limits ... and solutionssatisfying LP conditions.Requiring only a fundamental knowledge of general analysis and measure theory, thisbook serves as an excellent text for graduate students studying partial differentialequations and harmonic analysis, as well as a useful reference for analysts interested inapplied measure theory, and specialists in partial differential equations.
Integral Quadratic Forms

Integral Quadratic Forms

This tract gives a fairly elementary account of the theory of quadratic forms with integral coefficients and variables. It assumes a knowledge of the rudiments of matrix algebra and of elementary number theory, but scarcely any analysis. It is therefore intelligible to beginners and helps to prepare them for the study of the advanced work on quadratic forms over general rings. Dr Watson works step by step from wider (and easier) to narrower relations between forms, the final goal being the study of equivalence. The important problem of representation of integers is fully discussed in the course of the main development. There is an early chapter on reduction. Existing work on the theory of integral quadratic forms is obscure (partly for historical reasons). But the straightforward approach adopted by Dr Watson leads to a consideration of most of the main problems; there are proofs of many recent results, including some discovered by Dr Watson but hitherto unpublished.

Since its original release, "Tales of the Weird and Fantastic" has become a virtual classic in the underground and independent world of writers and readers. It's only natural that when two extraordinary, highly talented, eccentric and sometimes strange minds come together in the same pages, there will be either magic or chaos. Robert Kasch and Mr. Watson have created both in one volume. Here is a collection of original tales and dark poetry that will thrill you, scare you, make you smile, make you hide, and leave you wanting more. This, the 2nd edition, revised by Ronin Publications, features three new stories, as well as an extra RaTs. This is TALES OF THE WEIRD AND FANTASTIC as you've never seen it before, revamped, re-organized, raw and relentless. This is the real version of the classic."Believing that a horror story only works when there is an equal partnership between writer and reader, the author keeps his stories raw and open; horror blooms within two minds. 'Tales of the Weird and Fantastic' is an excellent selection of horror and flash fiction that will satisfy traditional fans of horror and science fiction. Spiced up with dry humor here and there, it provides a good ride into a very weird world." -Bill Mays, 2015Edited and prepared by Ronin Publications
