Hyrst had been convicted and executed for a murder he did not commit. Fifty years later his body was unfrozen and revived. He was no longer quite the same man he had been, but he still intended to find out who had committed the murder and clear his name.

I suppose you might say it really started when Becquerel first puzzled over his fogged photographic plates. But to us, Andersen's premonitions were the start. We called him the "Melancholy Dane." But that was just a joke, though his tall, cadaverous appearance fitted it. He wasn't really a gloomy sort, and was a first-class nuclear chemist. That was why he surprised us with what he said at dinner that night. "I have a feeling that what we are doing here is against the cosmic scheme," he said in his slow English.

Plus stunning illustrations by the pioneer and genius of science fiction art, Frank R. Paul.Here you will find Comet Doom, a feature novel and intergalactic extravaganza, by a man who was already one of science fiction's leading stars, Edmond Hamilton (which concludes this anthology). Plus The Revolt of the Pedestrians," the first story by David H. Keller, M.D. (a psychiatrist specializing in abnormal psychology with a correspondingly dyspeptic view of life), who followed it up with over 100 more stories and a dozen novels of exceptional quality, if decidedly conservative viewpoint. And, Clare Winger Harris' "The Miracle of the Lily," a double-edged tale of the reintroduction of plant life onto a future Earth sterilized by ecological disaster, which established Harris as an indisputably better sf writer than most of her male colleagues; Harold Donitz's architectural utopia, "A Visitor from the Twentieth Century"; "The Metal Man," first story by Jack Williamson, a thought provoking, Merrittesque tale of crystalline and metallic life; Miles J. Breuer's imaginative fourth-dimensional jape, 'The Appendix and the Spectacles"; and Edwin K. Sloat's "Flight to Venus," a curiously affecting tale which focuses more on psychological and cultural reactions to the adventure than the adventure itself (Bleiler terms it, "intelligent, with amusing touches"). Rather than focusing his new publication on aerial adventure stories, editor Hugo Gernsback said in the April 1929 issue that his magazine would contain "flying stories of the future, strictly along scientific-mechanical-technical lines, full of adventure, exploration and achievement." This issue contains cover story "The Flying Buzz-Saw," by Harold McCay, "Evans of the Earth-Guard," by Edmond Hamilton, "Through the Meteors," by Lowell Howard Morrow, "The Heat Ray," by O.L. Beckwith, "The Meteoric Magnet," by Moses Schere, and "The Flying Legion," by George Allan England. Of interest to aviation history buffs, the non-fiction article "How High Can Man Fly?" and regular columns Aviation News and Aviation Forum. Air Wonder Stories was published from July 1929 to May 1930, when it was merged with Science Wonder Stories to become Wonder Stories Quarterly. In 1935 it was sold to Beacon Publications and retitled Thrilling Wonder Stories, which ceased publication in 1955 with the decline in the pulp magazine industry.
