Parked in a 59' pink Cadillac convertible at the side of the store under the only shade tree for miles around sits a woman crying loud enough to break the sound barrier. The store owner, the mysterious Cowboy Johnson, steps out and urges them to help her. Mama and Geena, both being psychics who specialize in running away and appreciating land yachts, are hooked. The "Desert Store" adventures begin in book one with the gradual gathering of a group of lost, hiding out, secret laden, recipe holding, mostly psychic misfits moving into the desert store. When the store is full and running over with misfits, isolates and hermits, in self defense, William the Dude and Cowboy Johnson build a motel, restaurant, and gift shop, and name it Cowboy Johnson's Desert Oasis. The misfits build a life together, then each one moves on, one after the other, as time passes. But they return to the store each year for Christmas, back to the roots they grew together to celebrate and strengthen each other for the new year ahead. An old fashioned read, one to be savored; a story from an era of time rich in two lane blacktopped roads, land yachts, and the many roads leading to endless love.

Mama is terrified of returning Cowboy Johnson's steadfast, calm love. William the Dude Makepeace makes troubling decisions based on his arthritis. Still, love will have its way, traveling the many paths it takes to stay true to the soul each misfit carries. Interspersed here and there are children's stories the author is currently making into children's books. Geena's coming of age story is an inspiring tale of innocence and courage.

Mama loses Cowboy Johnson in the summer and flees to the ranch to hide out with his ashes just before Christmas. Then a huge blizzard stops most of the misfits from traveling home to the desert store for their annual Christmas gathering. But the desert store does not stay empty. Arrivals are expected. Timmon, Hector, and Annie await the appearance of Cowboy Johnson's angry father Matthew, but unexpected guests show up first, beginning with Susan Sugar Diamond and Lana English. Perry, Matthews other son, is out at a nearby ranch with William the Dude, Emma, and Mama. An intensely moving and luminous gathering of people who have reached a crossroads in their lives.
