Sweet Land of Liberty?

Sweet Land of Liberty?

Robert Cook

Routledge
2015
sidottu
A powerful and moving account of the campaign for civil rights in modern America. Robert Cook is concerned less with charismatic leaders like Martin Luther King, and more with the ordinary men and women who were mobilised by the grass-roots activities of civil-rights workers and community leaders. He begins with the development of segregation in the late nineteenth century, but his main focus is on the continuing struggle this century. It is a dramatic story of many achievements - even if in many respects it is also a record of unfinished business.

Youthanize: The Death of Traditional Youth Ministry
How Can We Pass On Our Faith to Our Kids?" After seeing the cover of this book, you may be asking yourself, "Why would a Pastor write a book about killing off youth ministry?" We lose 60% to 90% of all church-raised kids upon graduation. These stats were enough to keep Rob Cook up at night, on his knees. How did we get so good at turning kids off from God? Alienating Youth 101 or Quitting Church for Teens isn't taught in seminary. Where have we lost our way? He prayed, God answered. After 20 years of ministry to teens in Greater Philadelphia through 252 Underground, Rob offers fresh, street-proven ways to equip young lives for eternity through a lifelong vibrant walk with Christ. If you have a heart for unchurched teens, and are passionate about exchanging the old ineffectual ways for ways that will impact young lives for eternity, Youthanize is the guide that can help make that happen. About the Author: Robert Cook lives in Philadelphia with his wife Stephanie, son Christian, and several beloved pets. What Others are Saying... I have deplored the shallow pseudo-Christian nature of most American youth ministry my entire adult life. The fact that so many youth have left the church is no surprise. So I'm delighted that Rob Cook has blessed the church with this book, especially as it rises from the authority of his gritty, hands-on ministry. Whether you're a teen or care about teens, Rob will tell you what you need to hear and show you what to do about it. Peter Lundell, D.Miss., M.Div. Author, missionary, pastor, Bible college instructor "Go," was never a Suggestion. Rob Cook understands what it takes to follow God's Call down a path few are willing to travel. His book is a blueprint to help you navigate the Journey. Rev Chuck Kieffer Pastor, The Foundry Church Evangelism Catalyst, North American Mission Board Host, Up at Night Radio At first I thought, oh another youth ministry book. Wow, Robert Cook. You just never cease to amaze me. It was page after page and I just kept going with the out-of-the-box thinking that you shared. I've been in ministry for 39 years. I think we pastors all have cut our teeth in youth ministry, and I thought I was innovative and clever in my efforts to reach the youth of our community. Then I read Youthanize. I love how you break all the rules. As I read your book on the plane, I wanted to show it to everybody and tell them what a brilliant piece of literature this book is. It needs to be shared with everybody-in ministry and out of ministry. You show so many great ways to connect with youth and keep them coming back wanting more. This book is a winner, brother, Thank you for letting me share and encourage you to keep going strong, because you've inspired me in my writings. God bless you Rob. This is the story of the United Counties Omnibus Company, once one of Britain's largest and most influential bus companies. From its headquarters in Northampton, its sphere of influence covered most of the south-east Midlands, extending from Stamford and Market Harborough in the north, down to Oxford, Aylesbury and Luton in the south, from Daventry in the west to Bedford and Biggleswade in the east. Now part of Stagecoach East, the United Counties was the amalgamation of many small bus operators in the counties as they combined to serve an ever-increasing area. nidottu
This book contains a history of the (in)famous Tricorn building, late of Portsmouth, built in a flurry of sixties modernist vision and demolished after massive public debate in 2004. Tricorn was designed by Owen Luder and/or Rodney Gordon in 1966 as a Brutalist concept to comprise a multi-storey car park with extras: flats, shops, entertainment facilities etc. on derelict land. This detailed book explains the roots and origins of Tricorn, built on a Blitzed slum area and old market, and the evolution of the design from a wholesale vegetable market with a car park to concrete mega structure, major shop centre, haven for artists, home for small traders, housing location, nurses' home, nightclub, entertainment centre and warehouse, before its terminal decline. Illustrated with over 200 photographs and peppered with interviews with the designers themselves as well as locals and bystanders, this is an important record of one of the most controversial buildings of the twentieth century.

It is populated by memorable and complex characters like Gunnar of Hlidarendi, a powerful warrior with an aversion to killing, and the not-so-villainous Mord Valgardsson. Full of dreams, strange prophecies, violent power struggles, and fragile peace agreements, Njal's Saga tells the compelling story of a fifty-year blood feud that, despite its distance from us in time and place, is driven by passions familiar to us all. This Penguin Classics edition includes an introduction, chronology, index of characters, plot summary, explanatory notes, maps, and suggestions for further reading.
