Long ago in the far northwest new people were making their way in an new land. Two young women were coming of age in a male dominated world that tried to control what they were allowed to do. They had a mother who empathetically understood her daughters and a supportive father that taught them the skills of hunting and protecting themselves in the wilds that surrounded them. White Swan and her sister Quiet Pheasant though two years apart could have passed for twins and they shared the same desire to be able to fend for themselves. Their transition into the mating age, brought their situation to a head. They attacked the situation and decided they would choose who would be their mates. The insistence of the Clan elders catalyzed the situation. They approached their two potential mates and challenged them to a hunt. Their goal was to see if their choices were the right ones.On the hunt both White Swan and Quiet Pheasant hunt on the bet that their two potential mates must clean and process the buffalos that the two of them will hunt They demonstrate a secret way to down the buffalo that has their two potential mates amazed. More amazing is when in an exchange White Swan proposes their union to Gray Fox Running. His stunned silence make White Swan wonder if she has pushed too far too fast. His suggestion his suggestion that he wants to make sure that she looks as sweet with the smell of buffalo washed off is to her a yes She pushes her sister to make the same proposal to Red Oak. Their two new mates accept with the condition they get taught the new hunting technique that was so grandly displayed. Once home, her parents rejoice at their aggressive but successful daughters. White Swan and Quiet Pheasant change sub-Clans and leave with their new mates.

It was a new land. It challenged. Floating Cloud held her young granddaughter and told her that her mother had gone to the land of the ancients to be with her mate. History was repeating itself. She had to raise her daughter by herself when her mate had been killed by a wooly rhino. It had been hard, but she was young. Now she faced the same challenge, but she was already considered very old. Her daughter had worked hard to provide for Quiet Rabbit, but the accident had taken her to where she had wanted to go. The end of the hunting season and the gathering of the Clans was almost upon her. She and her granddaughter worked hard to have goods to trade. This season she would concentrate all her bargaining on getting enough dried meat to survive the winter. She could not plan beyond that horizon. Her worries diminished when every morning she found enough game on her fire ring. Someone was secretly providing her with enough for two good meals a day. When White Swan informed her that Gray Fox Running was to become the leader of the Elk Clan. She asked to also move into the Elk Clan. The food that she had worked so hard to accumulate was passed out so every family in the Elk Clan had the same amount and would face the same survival odds. She was devastated. Hope slowly came to her as she still found the small game for two meals at her fire ring. She now thought she knew who the generous person might be. The chances for survival seemed to be increasing but the Elk Clan was without a winter shelter. The snows started before the clan had reached the coast where they hoped to find the shelter they needed. White Swan found a superb winter home location and marshalled the Clan to build the main shelter. She selected a prime location and expended extra effort to insure that she would have the shelter she and Quiet Rabbit need. She watched as Quiet Rabbit became a leader among the younger group. She was proud when she watched as Quiet Rabbit and her friends led the effort that helped Taelo set up a huge fish trap in the bay. The Clan not only survived the winter but became rich in dried fish and in the access to year round buffalo. White Cloud knew that her daughter and her mate would be looking down proud of their daughter. She was in a place in life that she could not ask for more.

He had lost all but had gained much. It took him a long time to recover from the mauling that left his face disfigured and his body broken. He later learned of his mate's miscarriage and soon after lost her as well. His name was changed from Long Spear to Broken Spear Unable to hunt with no family support it seemed his life was over. He knew he was at the bottom. His body was broken and so was his will. Then he found that he was able to see through the eyes of the soaring eagle and hawk. He was able to see the herds of buffalo as well as the location of the very dangerous predators. He began to share this information with hunt teams. His abilities soon made him sought out by hunt leaders. His coaching was paid back with food. He was made the Seer of the clan. He entered into exchanges with the Ancients. They told him that a future leader would come at a time of the clan's dire need and guide the clan to new prosperity. The day was clear. A white swan swam gracefully on a small oblong lake. The surrounding mountains graced with a dark green ribbon of pine surrounded a valley where a large group of people had gathered. The eagle clearly saw the swan and then focused solely on an object on what Broken Spear recognized as a naming hide. He tried to get a better look at the people. The eagle would only focus on what Broken Spear took to be the claw of an eagle. He watched as a small hand picked up the claw and held it to the sky. The eagle let out a cry, folded its wings and took a dive that had him holding tight. He was not sure he would survive but at the last moment the eagle spread its wings as it took the claw from the small hand and with a loud cry rose back into the sky. The eagle accompanied by the white swan flew on circle around the valley and then flew away. Broken Spear knew that the young boy would in time come to lead his clan but he had no idea when that would happen. He would need more guidance from the Ancients. For the near future he would need to guide his clan as best he could.

Quiet Rabbit sat on the beach and thought about the personal loss she had lived through. Fast Skimmer her father was killed by rhino during a long hunt. She had watched her more weep silently as he was brought back from the long hunt. Soon her mother followed. It was a morning accident when she went of get fresh water from the lake. She knew as she watched her grandmother walking toward her with tears in her eyes. She resolved to have the same relationship with her mate as her mother and her mate had. She knew that it was not how long they had each other but that their souls had touched. Then her grandmother let her know that they were following White Swan and her family into a new Elk sub-clan. She had been focusing trading for dried food so that she and her grandmother would be able to survive the coming snow cycle. In the new clan she became friends Busy Bee and Talking Wren. They learned to hunt together. They were terrible hunters. Quiet Rabbit asked her friend Taelo if he would teach them to hunt. Taelo and Golden Hawk his cousin gave them hunting lessons. She learned to hunt with the sling and how to defend with the spear. She slowly realized that her feelings for Taelo was more than just friendship. He however seemed not to notice. Then White Swan suggested that she participate in the first long hunt that would have both men and women hunting together. Quiet Rabbit immediately accepted. Taelo would be on the same long hunt. She won a race that placed her as Taelo's hunt partner. She learned the secret hunting technique that she later learned White Swan had utilized to capture her mate. In the following days, her connection became ever closer to Taelo. They returned to the Clan as the team that had sent the most meat to the clan. On the return she was walking next to the person that she knew she would walk with in the same close relationship that her mother and father had shared. Quiet Feather stood up and walked along the beach and thanked them both for giving her the foundation on which she now stood.

Busy Bee was in a state of shock as the realization of how privileged she was and how little she had paid attention to the plight of her clan. The new leader, Grey Fox Running had requested that everyone, of the clan households display the food that they had available. Her father a lead hunter of the Elk Clan had more food than many families, but it was small. The families joining the Elk clan had more.A girl, named Quiet Rabbit and her grandmother had at least twice as much. Grey Fox Running, his mate, and their son Taelo had even more. The new lead hunter, Red Oak had the same amount. She watched in amazement as they redistributed the food, so each family had the same amount. She felt ashamed for not having been aware of the plight of the clan that was her home. She resolved to be more connected and to contribute to the effort to ensure that the clan would survive the coming cold period. She and her friend Talking Wren were soon friends with Quiet Rabbit. Busy Bee decided that her new friends name should be Action Rabbit for her ability to see what was needed and doing it. She made sure to include her circle of friends. When the three of them decided they should learn to become good hunters, it was Quiet Rabbit that got Taelo and Golden Hawk to teach them.It was clear to her that Quiet Rabbit had her eyes on Taelo. She was pleased that Golden Hawk, Taelo's cousin seemed to be available and pleasant to be around. When Taelo and Golden Hawk were late in returning from a hunt and she heard White Swan insisting that the Clan stop and wait their return, she became concerned. The two returned with an elk and the hides of two giant dire wolves. She was relieved and helped pull the loaded travois into camp. White Swan proposed that she volunteer to be one of the female hunters to go on a long hunt.She immediately jumped at the chance to hunt with Taelo and Golden Hawk. On the way to the hunting area, in a race to determine who would hunt with Taelo and Golden Hawk, she was out run by Quiet Rabbit, and it seemed that Talking Wren would also beat her. She knew she had to be second if she were to hunt with Golden Hawk. She knew she would never catch Quiet Rabbit, so she put her heart into finishing second. This gave her the opportunity to be Golden Hawk's hunting partner. She did not know it at the time, but it would be a partner she would have for life. Later, after their return from the long hunt, she sat next to Golden Hawk with a hide around their shoulders. She felt the warmth that she knew she would enjoy for many seasons to come.

Talking Wren was in one of her unusual quiet moments. She had just pulled Little Otter to safety. She suddenly realized that Broken Spear, the seer of the other had warned her and told her where she should stand at this precise moment. An eagle let out a cry. She looked at Taelo and saw him nod. He had made sure she was in place for this moment.Little Otter sat next to Talking Wren and thanked her for saving his life. At that moment he knew that this was the moment that bonded them for their lives. A new maturity seemed to rush in as he realized that he was leading a team of hunters that had become his friends and who together had out preformed all other hunt teams. He transitioned from a envious person to one that learned from all those around them. Talking Wren began thinking about her capabilities and what she could do to enrich herself and those around her.She knew she could hunt. She knew that her mind gave her insights that others seemed to miss. She began to apply herself and was soon recognized for her ability to guide major efforts. During the return from the Journey of the Heart, she was sure that the team had met their end when Taelo was confronted and forced to kill the co-leader of the Warrior Clan. She watched as Taelo expertly handled the situation and then led the team on their journey home.She knew then that she and Little Otter would support Taelo and follow him wherever he asked them to go. She and Little Otter held hands as they sat with the rest of the team on head rock and watched the sun kiss the far horizon. She was where she had always known she wanted to be.

Emma looked into the eyes of the young man on the bed. She had successfully extracted he and two others from a blazing inferno and brought them five hundred years into the future. It was amazing to her that he and the two others had no major injuries. This was one of the most successful extractions that her team had experienced. Normally they ended up with broken bodies that seemed to have fallen from some great height. She desperately needed healthy and physically able humans to send back into the past. The human DNA was deteriorating and needed to be rejuvenated. Her team had sent several subjects into the past but there was no DNA improvement indication. Such a change was the only measure that the team had determined would indicate success. Now these three had been brought forward and they were in excellent health and condition. The male came through in a conscious state. This was a first. He was given sedatives and put to sleep. She wanted to keep him long enough to interview him to see what she could learn but she was overruled. The transmission into the past was to go on as scheduled. The male to be sent back jumped from his bed and into the transmission pedestal. He was transmitted into the past. The two females were sent back on the next day. The next extraction from the past yielded an even more dramatic scene. The extraction was for a young female. What arrived was the young female and an older male. He was not on the list for extraction. He came through wide awake and ready for combat. He declared that his name was Marshal and asked when in the future was he. He was a surprise and one that from the very first challenge Emma's understanding of the past. He it turned out was the father of the next two young men to be extracted. Emma knew from the beginning he was an anomaly that her team had somehow not planned for. At almost the same time, the Aliens from another part of the galaxy came through a fold in space. The fact that these beings had been able to utilize the infant technology that Emma was developing to move four massive spaceships carrying one billion of them made it clear to those on Earth that they were technologically out classed. Earth denies the Aliens the right to settle and share the planet equally. They offer to accept a portion of the Aliens. This is not accepted and a major battle ensues. Earth is on the losing end. It is desperate. Marshal uses his war experience, the ancient weapons of the twenty and twenty-first century to successfully change the course of the battle. His son's manipulation of the newly developed matter transmitter in a phoenix like turn in the battle subdue the Aliens. Marshal has figured out a way to use the far future to put him back close to his own time. He watches himself and his sons being pulled into the future. He then goes to meet his wife of forty years to comfort her. She was the reason for his return to his own time. The future would have to wait for him be ready to make the trip again.

The leaves were off the trees and the cattails at the edge of the lake were bursting their tops and the wind was blowing the fluff bound seeds out across the water. Her wolf, Bold Walker was sitting at her feed as she absent mindedly scratched behind his ear. She was now a permanent and accepted member of Taelo's team. She had been on the Journey of discovery when they traveled east. It was on that trip that she had first observed the mount. They had traveled much of the journey riding on their mounts. The team had just returned from their journey to the north and across the ice bridge to the world beyond. She had faced the giant brown bear and had almost lost her life. The journey was her journey into her mature life. The team had faced battle with the sky eyes and had won. She had helped save Taelo from almost certain death when his sled went into a fathomless crevasse in the ice. The team had returned with more than one hundred people from that far land. She had expressed her desire to lead the new sub-Elk clan that she had named the Eastern Elk Clan. She had Taelo's and the team's support but she did not think that would be enough. She was young, she was an adopted member of the Elk Clan, she was the wrong gender and had the smallest physical stature of all the people in the Clan. She had come to the realization that Running Stag, saved by Taelo from the cannibals was the soul mate she had always dreamt of meeting. He came out and sat with her as she waited to be summoned by Wise Owl the Elk Clan Council leader. She held little hope that she would be selected leader of the new Eastern Elk Clan. When she was called in to the council meeting she expected to hear rejection, instead she was given the staff that signified her appointment to the position of Eastern Elk Clan leader.She had tears in her eyes as she realized that her dreams of getting to lead a clan and finding her soul mate had both come true.

The other world slowly vaporizes the neighborhood where the three live. They begin to slowly become shadows of themselves. It is clear that they are being erased. The creatures from the other side are beginning to make their appearance. Claudia reads the phrase that closes the door, and the world becomes whole again. The three friends leave the book sealed in the cabinet and walk home. They do not see the old man that had established the library walk away with the book. The meanest girl in school suddenly became friendly. The bully that regularly beat him suddenly wanted to be his buddy. The entire football team accepted him sitting at their table. It was nice to be accepted but, IT WAS NOT NORMAL.Jason, and his two buddies Jake and John discuss the change. They were known as the three J's. It turns out that Jason is experiencing a change, but his two buddies seem normal. They set up a way to gather data on the change. They decide to confront their mothers and determine that Jake who is an only child is the one who should ask his mother what she had done.Their mothers admit to secretly letting their doctor administer a pheromone treatment that improved the acceptance of the individual. After stopping the treatment, the meanest girl in school becomes mean again and the world gets back to normal. The three buddies are enjoyed being liked but they enjoy being Normal more.

Jasper and his two friends were just about to set up their camp. He watches his two friends get pulled into a beam. He knows immediately that aliens have arrived. He was able to duct while his two friends stood and watched the beam that pulled them up. He knew the aliens would be back for him. Jasper grew up in the mountains he was now in and his father has taught him how to be a ghost in the forest. Other than facing technology superior anything he has experienced before, Jasper is sure he can outwit the alien arrivals. To his friends he was known as Jasper the ghost for his ability to seemingly disappear and not be able to be found. The Aliens return to capture him but he figures out a way to get on their small ship that he figures is a scout ship. He hides as they return with his cell phone that he has used like cheese in a mouse trap. He has left them a message that he hopes will lead to the release of his two friends. He is able to get on board the mothership and locate the holding area of his two buddies. The escape plan is so simple that Jason is not sure it will work. He sets it in motion and then waits on the scout ship. His plan works. The aliens return to capture him, using his two buddies as bait. He overcomes the alien left on the scout ship. He has the scout ship move from its landing location.His two buddies escape as the two aliens with them realize their scout ship is leaving. Jason lets the alien on the scout ship know that Earthlings would soon be competing with them. They should return in a more open manner and introduce themselves. They should call ahead and let folks know they are coming.

The line to the counter had a snivel just ahead of them. Snivels were not supposed to be allowed as pets because they were likely to attack people.Bangor immediately went into defend mode and a commotion ensued. Nopek saw the guards coming toward them along the line and knew he had to get Bangor away from the area or they would be removed from the terminal. He did not want to loose his vacation. He had no idea at the wonders and the feeling of joy he would experience. He arrives and the stench of the world is more than he can stand but his filters allow him to overcome the environment. He hears a sound that enthrals him and he sees a being that enchants him. He is invisible in the three dimensional world and he needs his visual translation google to see. What he sees and hears, brings him to his knees. It is so powerful and enthralling. He has come to a three dimensional world but he is having a multi-dimensional experience. In a one sleep time cycle he experiences more than he has ever done on any regular four dimension vacation and he has ten more cycles to experience.

Angela has fallen, hit her head and when she wakes up she does not know who she is or where she is. The only image in her mind is a boy with a radiant smile. It is pouring rain and she finds out that her ankle is badly sprained. She sees a backpack down the steep embankment and decides to slide down to it. The contents of the backpack let her know some of her talents and the fact that she is packed to camp out. Once the rain stops, still only able to maneuver on her knees, she sets up camp. She takes out her note pad and begins to capture the scene of the valley she is in. She takes a dip in the stream by which she is camped to wash off all the mud. Once clean she sits on the stream bank with her feet in the cold water. She is not sure of what she is seeing but as she sits down by her fire ring, the Princes points to a spot where a gold chain is exposed. Angela pulls the chain from the ashes. The pendant at the end of the chain is a likeness of the Princes. After a couple of days, Angela's ankle is strong enough for her to walk on. As she gets her camp cleaned up, she sees the Indian Prince pointing across the valley to where a sparkle can be seen. Angela decides that her ankle will make the journey across the valley to see if she can find the what is sparkling. She finds a pendant that is the same as the one she has sketched being worn by her Princes by the stream. She is now ready to leave the valley. She is constantly wondering who the boy with the Radiant Smile might be. She hopes that she will meet him. Her hike across the valley and out along the trail that she had come in on, slowly brings back some of her memory, but she still cannot remember her name. Then she comes up from the trail to a road. There on the road is the Boy with the Radiant smile. It is her twin brother. Things all seem to flash back. She walks to him with her own Radiant smile and gives him a hug.
