Umweltrecht Zu Beginn Des 21. Jahrhunderts: Gesammelte Beitrage. Hrsg.
Volumes of Praise for a Vanishing God
The contentious issue of congregational singing in the evangelical church in the United States is so intense that it has come to be known as the "music war." In this book, a biblical view of worship is brought together with modern scholarship in musical and cognitive studies, to provide a new, clearly-argued analysis of the problem and an unambiguous solution. The study leads to a perspective that will surprise most readers, a perspective which, if true, will be of great concern to all those who love the God of historic Christianity. A modest musical background is helpful but not at all necessary.
Worship and Congregational Singing
This book constitutes an analysis of the major aspects of congregational singing in the Western evangelical church, including song texts, music, and instrumental accompaniment. For each of these, standards are given by which to evaluate the suitability of individual songs and styles of accompaniment for use in worship. Examples are given showing the application of these standards to numerous existing songs, and suggested grades are assigned. The foundation for this study consists of definitions of worship and corporate worship and four principles which the author derives from John 4:24. Several familiar alternative conceptions of evangelical worship are examined. This book differs from the author's earlier work, "Volumes of Praise for a Vanishing God," in the breadth of topics discussed, the inclusion of full documentation and an extensive bibliography that provides starting points for further study. Also included in this volume is an abundance of endnotes dealing with related topics of interest.

Sex Differences in Labor Markets

Sex Differences in Labor Markets

David Neumark

Sex differences abound in labor markets. In the United States three differences in particular have attracted the most attention: the earnings gap, occupational segregation, and the greater responsibility of women for child care and housework, and consequential lower participation in the labor market. This volume brings together David Neumark's work of the past fifteen years: in it he tries to understand and analyze the relative importance of family economic decision-making and sex discrimination in generating sex differences in labor markets. Neumark's research covers three main levels of inquiry. The first studies non-discriminatory sources of sex differences in labor markets; the second grapples with the problem of sex discrimination; while the third evaluates policies to combat and reduce sex differences in labor markets.

An authoritative review of the state of the art in the Nuclear Overhauser Effect-essential information for organic chemists, biochemists, biophysicists, and NMR spectroscopists The field of NMR spectroscopy has seen tremendous growth in the last twenty years, particularly advances relating to Nuclear Overhauser Effect (NOE) spectroscopy-the most powerful technique for obtaining structural information on molecules in solution. Extensive and engaging, the Second Edition of the leading reference on the NOE is significantly updated to reflect the latest changes and new approaches in the field. Neuhaus and Williamson provide an essential guide to the complexities and use of the NOE in a readily accessible, straightforward manner. Their practical handbook features a new chapter addressing the use of NOE data to calculate biomolecular structures. Chapters dealing with the kinetics of the NOE, the effects of exchange and internal motion, and applications of the NOE, are also extensively revised. Cross-referenced in remarkable depth, The Nuclear Overhauser Effect is organized into three main parts: * Part I describes the theory of the Nuclear Overhauser Effect in a clear, comprehensive fashion * Part II discusses the considerations involved in implementing NOE experiments, including full coverage of all necessary details for both new and established techniques * Part III offers examples of how the NOE is used, including applications to defining molecular geometry, stereochemistry, conformation, and biomolecular structure and interactions The Nuclear Overhauser Effect in Structural and Conformational Analysis, Second Edition, uniquely explains the NOE in detail, making it an indispensable resource for the novice as well as the experienced NMR researcher.

Franz Waxman's Rebecca

Franz Waxman's Rebecca

Upon his arrival in Hollywood, Alfred Hitchcock began work on his first American film, an adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s best-selling novel. Produced by David O. Selznick and featuring compelling performances by Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, and Judith Anderson, Rebecca became one of Hitchcock’s most successful films. It was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and received the Oscar for Best Picture, the only Hitchcock work to be so honored. Without question, one of the reasons for the film’s success is its ninety minutes of dramatic musical underscoring by Franz Waxman. In Franz Waxman’s Rebecca: A Film Score Guide, David Neumeyer and Nathan Platte situate the score for this classic work within the context of the composer’s life and career. Beginning with Waxman’s early training and professional experience as a jazz musician and film-music arranger-orchestrator in Berlin, the authors also recount the composer’s work in the music department at MGM between 1936 and 1942. During this period, Waxman was loaned out to Selznick International Pictures and wrote the music for Rebecca. Through manuscript and archival research, Neumeyer and Platte untangle the threads of the film’s complicated music production process, which was strongly influenced by Selznick’s habit of micromanaging music choices and placement. This volume concludes with a thematic analysis and reading of the score that incorporates commentary on scenes and cues. The first book devoted to the music of a single film by this great composer from Hollywood’s golden age, Franz Waxman’s Rebecca: A Film Score Guide will be of interest to musicologists and film scholars, as well as fans of Alfred Hitchcock and Franz Waxman.

No aspect of this harrowing journey was more difficult--or deadly--than the trek over the Chilkoot Trail: a fifty-three kilometre journey over the coastal mountains from the tidewaters of Alaska, through British Columbia to the headwaters of the Yukon River. But even before the gold rush, the trail was an important First Nations trade and travel route, joining the Tlingit of the coast with the First Nations of the interior. Today the Chilkoot Trail draws hikers from around the world who want to experience the area's natural beauty and soak up its rich history. In Chilkoot Trail: Heritage Route to the Klondike, two historians--one from each side of the border--give readers the feeling of what life was like on the trail before, during and after the great Klondike gold rush.

David Neumann/Advanced Beginner Group’s I Understand Everything Better is a "deeply felt and deeply moving" (New York Times) performance piece, a multi-disciplinary, dance-based work that explores the impulse to report on calamity, the shimmer of attention to realms unseen, and the evidence of the body as possessing a will to let go of living.Emerging from a year in which David Neumann lost both his mother and father, I Understand Everything Better documents a process of dying, and how the altered attentiveness of the dying and those who care for them can invite a complex layering of now and then, here and there, living room and mountain road. The text draws on Neumann’s accounts of his father’s final days as well as Noh theater, the Kyogen play Boshibari, Shakespeare’s King Lear, transcripts of live weather reporting (mostly during hurricanes), and interviews with end-of-life caregivers, doctors, and meteorologists.Advanced Beginner Group’s 2015 production—winner of two Bessie awards for Outstanding Production and Outstanding Sound Design—includes text by David Neumann and Sibyl Kempson. Edited and designed by Karinne Keithley Syers with photography by Maria Baranova, this volume is an elegant, richly layered record of a rigorously collaged, collaborative performance that was itself a record of a storm.
The Power of Judges

The Power of Judges

David Neuberger

Haus Publishing
2018
pokkari
The role of the Supreme Court has often been considered out of reach and incomprehensible to the vast majority of the public, while judges might be seen as a caste apart from society, remote to most people. The Power of Judges tries to defy this logic, exploring the fundamental concept of justice and explaining in a simple way the main functions of the courts, the challenges they face and the complexity of the judicial system. In a remarkable effort to make the judiciary more accessible, David Neuberger and Peter Riddell lead the reader through a vast array of subjects such as the relationships between morality and law and between Parliament and the judiciary. They explain the effects of cuts in legal aid and try to shed light on complex and controversial subjects like the role of arbitration and mediation, the matter of assisted dying and the complex balance of dealing with mass terrorism while protecting personal liberty. In the book’s final chapters the authors question the validity of an unwritten constitution and the robustness of the legal system today. The book also offers a comparison of the UK’s legal system with its counterparts in the US and Germany. Full of insights, The Power of Judges is an informative and accessible account of the UK judicial system, its contribution to running the country and the challenges it faces, including the many threats to its effectiveness.
