As the glorious first century of organised orthodontics has passed and we have entered the next century, the sheer pace of technological advancement is phenomenal. If the history of all landmarks were to be drawn, the most recent would be the development of the Skeletal Anchorage System (SAS). Skeletal Anchorage System (SAS) involves the use of implants as a source of orthodontic anchorage. The pioneering studies on oral implants were done by Linkow in 1967, who is rightfully called the Father of Oral Implantology. Implants are fast gaining popularity, as their patient compliance expectation use is minimal. Anchorage can be both orthodontic as well as orthopedic. The orthopedic uses include maxillary expansion as well as maxillary protraction while orthodontic include intrusion, space closure and distalisation. Now, with the development of newer implants such as the micro-implants, their use has been revolutionised as these implants are small, easily placed as well as removed, and require a minimal healing period before loading. The future of implants in orthodontics is promising as product developments in terms of minimal patient discomfort and reduced treatment time are continually occurring. The Editor of this book explores the issues as well as other new developments and challenges in contemporary orthodontics.

Mathematics plays a key part in every quantitative and theoretical subject, and is taught to all science and engineering students. Foundations of Science Mathematics bridges the gap between school and university, and spans a large range of topics, from basic arithmetic and algebra to calculus, Fourier transforms, and elementary data analysis. Problems and worked solutions are presented in an informal and readable tutorial style, making the text accessible to the novice, while its concise nature ensures that it is a useful reference for the experienced professional. The first edition primer and its companion 'Worked Problems' workbook are combined in this new edition, and a new chapter on data analysis has been added to ensure the book remains as comprehensive and useful to students as possible.

A gem among surgical manuals, this comprehensive guide to Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis is an excellent source for all surgeons looking specifically for technical details about the surgical management of these two diseases. Its authors - both involved in multi-center international trials, working parties and symposia - capture in print the improved techniques that have brought about revolutionary developments in the field. The extremely practical approach makes it easy for surgeons to review the indications for surgical interventions and the surgical options available for each clinical problem. Step-by-step operative instructions with practical tips born of long experience are given. The authors point out what results one should expect following the surgical intervention; these include zero mortality and minimal morbidity. They also list all the steps that should be taken to minimize the risk of late complications or recurrence. The clear instructions in this manual will also be of great value to non-surgical physicians who wish to know the indications for surgical treatment and what results they should expect from their surgical colleagues.

'Lines of Space' is a unique and interesting approach to creation of matter from empty space. The Author has presented this notion by primarily discussing the established theories of physics in an interactive dialogue with his son in order to simplify them and then comparing them with the new idea of 'Lines of Space'.The author conjectured that, in the beginning of the Universe, there was dense uniform space which converted into matter by contraction and caused different stresses in the remaining space, which in turn gave rise to fundamental forces. The author developed mathematical formulae to find this stress at various locations in the universe and established its relation with cause of Gravitation, bending of Light, expansion of the Universe, Theory of Relativity and creation of subatomic particles. Thus, he has presented in this book, an absolutely new, ground-breaking, plausible and fascinating look in to the world of physics where all matter in the universe is created from space itself and the fundamental forces subsist due to stress in the 'Lines of Space'.
