"Duffy and aggravation go together like gin and tonic." - David Bailey As famous as the stars he photographed, Brian Duffy defined the image of Swinging London in the 1960s. Together with David Bailey and Terence Donovan, Duffy is recognised as one of the innovators of 'documentary' fashion photography, a style which revolutionised the industry. Their attitude and aesthetic iconified the scene, birthing the cult of the fashion photographer and inspiring the famous film Blow-Up (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1966). As Duffy put it, "Before 1960, a fashion photographer was tall, thin and camp. But we three are different: short, fat and heterosexual!" The press nicknamed the three photographers 'The Terrible Three', while Norman Parkinson added to their notoriety by naming them 'The Black Trinity'. Duffy's most famous photograph is the 'Mona Lisa of pop', the cover of Bowie's 'Aladdin Sane'. He collaborated with the artist over eight years and exerted a direct influence on the numerous reinventions of Bowie's image. It is fitting, therefore, that this new edition should expand on their work together with new images. This new edition of Duffy also features other, new images from the photographer's archive, depicting both star and photographer in their prime.

A heart-warming and hilarious novel about life, love, and the weight of all we leave unsaid, Duffy & Son is a quietly moving masterpiece from one of Ireland’s most gifted comic writers. Eugene Duffy is turning 70; his son Jim is turning 40. For decades now, they’ve been running the family hardware shop and living in good-natured bachelor harmony. But time is marching on, and with thoughts of old age weighing heavily on his mind, Eugene is growing increasingly concerned about his son’s future. He resolves to help in the best way possible: by finding Jim a wife. And he’s not going to let anyone – let alone Jim himself – stand in his way. Reminiscent of Fredrik Backman’s bestselling novel A Man Called Ove, Duffy and Son contains a likeable but curmudgeonly main character, wry humour, tremendous heart, as well as a strong sense of community. It is a funny and heartwarming novel which celebrates the messiness of ordinary lives and would make a perfect reading group choice.

This is the gripping story of how one man’s half-century of service and devotion helped build and develop the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment; and how that regiment played a vital role in Canada’s efforts during the Second World War. Angus Duffy was Regimental Sergeant-Major during the Second World War; commanding officer from 1958 to 1962, and Honorary Colonel from 1976 to 1981, an da man revered and respected for his tough but humane approach to leadership, and underlying belief that the common foot soldier was more important than the commissioned officer. Although he wasn’t commanding officer during the Second World War, there was little doubt that the Hastings & Prince Edward soldiers felt they were serving in Duffy’s Regiment. Illustrated with a number of captivating war photos, Duffy’s Regiment is a detailed, and often touching look at the impact one man had on his regiment, and the incredible sacrifice of those men.

The legendary “Fighting 69th” took part in five major engagements during World War I. It served in the front lines for almost 170 days, suffering hundreds killed and thousands wounded. This highly decorated unit was inspired by its chaplain, the famous Father Francis Duffy (whose statue stands in Times Square), and commanded by the future leader of the OSS (predecessor of the CIA), “Wild Bill” Donovan. One of its casualties was the poet Joyce Kilmer. Due in large part to the classic 1940 movie The Fighting 69th, starring James Cagney and Pat O’Brien (as Duffy), the unit still has strong name recognition. But until now, no one has recounted in detail the full story of this famous Irish outfit in World War I. The exciting Duffy’s War brings to life the men’s blue-collar neighborhoods—Irish mostly and Italian and overwhelmingly Catholic. These boys came from the East Side, the West Side, Hell’s Kitchen, the Gashouse, and Five Points; from Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island City, and Staten Island; and from Father Duffy’s own parish in the Bronx. They streamed out of the tenements and apartment houses, enlisting en masse. Brothers joined up, oftentimes three and four from one family. Published during a resurgent interest in the doughboy experience of World War I, Duffy’s War also tells the fascinating history of New York City and the Irish experience in America. With this book, Stephen L. Harris completes his outstanding trilogy on New York National Guard regiments in World War I.

Brian Duffy has been poking fun at the Iowa caucuses for just about as long as they’ve been a media circus, since the 1970s. Now, the longtime editorial cartoonist has gathered a selection of his best images lampooning the politicians on their quadrennial stampedes through Iowa’s fields and towns.Whether you’re anticipating or dreading the onset of another caucus season in 2016, this book will put it all into perspective. From Jimmy Carter’s innovative 1976 effort to Barack Obama’s comefrombehind win in 2008, from George H. W. Bush’s storming to victory in 1980 to George W. Bush’s coasting to his win in 2000, from Gary Hart’s peccadillos in 1988 to John Edwards’s missteps in 2008, from Elizabeth Dole’s determination to breach the White House boys’ club in 2000 to Hillary Clinton’s fall from frontrunner to third place in 2008, here is American presidential campaigning in all its glory. With pigs.

Have you ever wondered what your dog was thinking, especially as he’s trying to make every neighborhood dog his own personal squeaky toy or wailing in panic on a car trip? In Duffy’s World, curious humans finally have the chance to find out.Duffy is an Australian Shepherd with an unquenchable thirst for new experiences—that often get him into trouble. In this quirky memoir, Duffy reveals his thoughts about his most significant life events: finding “treats” in the yard, gaining a cat for a sister, braving a sadistic vet, losing loved ones, and more.Co-narrated by his owner, Faith McCune, Duffy’s account identifies the joys and challenges that mark the territory of the human/canine relationship. As frustrating as dog ownership can be, readers will discover, as Duffy’s owner did, that dogs’ apparent failure to learn from the past is actually their relentless ability to live in the moment, and what seems to be their greatest challenge is actually their greatest gift.If you’ve ever found yourself wondering “why does my dog do that?” Duffy’s World will help you better understand your pet—and maybe even learn from him as well.
