The abbreviated Psalms commentary by Honorius Augustodunensis (ca. 1070 – ca. 1140)—a redaction of his own, much larger commentary on the entire Psalter—participates in a long tradition of Christian interpretation of the Book of Psalms. A prolific author closely associated with Anselm of Canterbury, Rupert of Deutz, and Gilbert of Poitiers, Honorius wrote a massive commentary on the Psalms when the so-called “school of Laon” was at work on the Glossa ordinaria. Honorius’s work shares the academic interest of that school, while simultaneously serving the devotion of the Benedictine Reform. His Exposition of Selected Psalms highlights a tripartite division of the Psalter, even as it discovers in the psalms an apocalypticism fitting to the Church in its last age.

ber Honorius Augustodunensis (1. H lfte des 12. Jh.) ist kaum etwas bekannt. Die Schriften dieses produktiven Autors aber waren erstaunlich weit verbreitet, wie hunderte von Handschriften, die seine Werke berliefern, eindrucksvoll belegen. Sein 'Elucidarium', ein Handbuch des christlichen Glaubens, wurde sogar in mehrere Volkssprachen bersetzt. Honorius war ein fr hmittelalterlicher Bestsellerautor mit einer bemerkenswerten Wirkungsgeschichte, dessen Originalit t von der Forschung jedoch immer wieder in Frage gestellt wurde, da man in ihm eher den Kompilator als den eigenst ndigen Denker zu sehen meinte. Dieser freilich unzutreffende Eindruck speist sich vor allem aus seiner 'Clavis Physicae', einer vereinfachenden Zusammenfassung des 'Periphyseon' des Eriugena, die f r die Eriugena-Rezeption im Mittelalter eine wichtige Rolle spielte. Honorius beteiligte sich an den Debatten seiner Zeit: Mit Anselm von Canterbury teilt er das Interesse an Fragen der Inkarnation und der Willensfreiheit, mit Rupert von Deutz an der Auslegung des Hohenliedes. G nzlich neu ist sein Standpunkt hinsichtlich der endzeitlichen Rolle der Juden. Die interdisziplin ren Beitr ge des vorliegenden Sammelbandes dienen der Erforschung des Honorius, dessen Originalit t es wiederzuentdecken gilt.

Der vorliegende Band basiert auf insgesamt sechs verschiedene B cher bzw. Manuskripten. Sie geben einen nahezu vollst ndigen Schatz der Magie, der unter dem Namen Honorius ver ffentlicht wurde, wieder. Als Quellen dienen zwei gro e Gruppen von Schriften, zum einen die der englischen und zum anderen die der franz sischen Schriften. Franz sische B cher - Grimoire des Papstes Honorius Als Quelle f r die franz sischen B cher wurden die Druckfassungen von 1670 und 1760 genutzt. Eine Urschrift, wenn man so will, ist das Skript Wellcome 4666. Zu Beginn werden die Vorbereitungen zu den Ritualen mit einigen Siegeln und Gebeten dargelegt. Darauf folgen Beschw rungen, um Geister anzurufen. Einen gro en Teil nimmt die Beschw rung der Geister der sieben Wochentage ein. Zu diesen Geistern geh ren unter anderem Luzifer und Astaroth. Zu jedem Geist wird ein Siegel abgebildet. Englische B cher - Liber Iuratus Honorii Der englische Teil der Ausgaben basiert auf die Handschrift Royal Manuskript R 17 A XLII aus dem 15. Jahrhundert und dem Sloane 3854. Das englische Corpus der Schriften setzt sich mit der Beschw rung der Geister und Engel auseinander. Einen sehr gro en Raum nimmt das Ritual ein, um eine Vision Gottes zu erlangen. Der Leser soll also dazu bef higt werden, Gott zu schauen - und zwar zu Lebzeiten. Das Buch bietet den Aufbau eines komplexen Rituals, um die Engel zu beschw ren und mit ihnen das eigene Ziel zu erreichen. Das Siegel Gottes: Eins der erstaunlichsten Werke des Buches ist das aufw ndige Siegel Gottes. Die markanteste Struktur des Siegels ist ein siebenzackiger Stern - ein Heptagon. Diese Siebenheit repr sentieren die sieben Sph ren oder die sieben Wochentagen. Damit beherbergt dieses Element symbolisch die Sch pfung; hnlich wie es schon im Buche Heptameron geschieht. Diese hier bersetzten B cher pr sentieren einen magischen Kosmos zur praktischen Anwendung zum Beschw ren von Geistern und Engel, um zum Erfolg und Gesundheit zu gelangen.
