What do you do? The way you communicate who you are and what you do will ultimately help you overcome the greatest single obstacle in the marketplace: having prospects understand what you do to help them. While you are faced with many obstacles, the inability to communicate effectively will result in a ripple effect of chaos and confusion you may never get a handle on. In addition to your prospecting, it would be a great advantage for others to refer prospects to you. But if you are unable to communicate effectively about your great products or your valuable service, how do you expect others to communicate your message on your behalf? This book is a blueprint for personal positioning. Three authors provide you with what you need to know and what you need to do to set yourself apart from your competition, get the ear of your decision maker, and set the stage for your fees to be an investment in the outcomes you provide versus being considered a cost to solve a problem or satisfy a need.
Do you have a positive view of getting older? It matters. Like many baby boomers her age, Kathy Gottberg started wondering if it was all down hill after turning 60. Instead, she gladly discovered that how each of us views the aging process strongly influences our health and happiness in the years to come. Now rather than seeing her advancing years from the perspective of decline and disease, Kathy is happy to share in the pages of this book how the vast majority of people can and do remain reasonably healthy, active and thriving for the remainder of their lives. How did we get it wrong? Until recently, most studies of people as they aged came from insurance companies, drug companies or doctors who specialized in geriatric care. Like the psychology field, research in the past often focused on pathologies, what didn't work, or what went wrong. Fortunately, that is changing. Now many groups, organizations, and scientists are looking into what makes for a long and healthy future no matter what the age. Instead of only seeking ways to make our final years merely comfortable, the attention is now being put on what helps us to continue to grow and thrive. When we choose to see aging from this new positive perspective, each of us is granted the opportunity to celebrate the many benefits of what is now being called "the third age" of life. Who will benefit from reading this book? Certainly, those at age 50 and beyond will find inspiration. But those just hitting midlife should also find encouragement. After all, the more we tell those younger than us that aging can be wonderful, fulfilling, and liberating, the better. Then instead of worrying about what is coming as we age, holding a positive perspective is sure to keep our minds and options open to the possible. And as the saying goes, like fine wine, we will just get better with age. Positive Aging-A SMART Living Guide 365 to Thriving & Wellbeing At Any Age is a collection of blog posts written by Kathy Gottberg on her blog SMART Living 365.com during the last five years. These articles address some of her best ideas about the topic and tie into how each of us can fearlessly embrace our age and look forward to the days to come.
Are you happy? If not, why not? It could be because you've accepted that you have little or no control over your life and can't imagine any other way. Or is it because you've been beaten down so many times that you've learned to just settle for whatever comes along? But what if there is another option? What if you really can create or at least influence your future? What if you can "make it up?" Included in this book are a series of articles from the blog SMART Living 365 with a focus on the ways those possibilities exist for us all. No, we can't stop the lumps and painful hurts of life from hitting us now and then, but we don't have to live a life of suffering if or when they do. And most of all, while we can't control the actions of others-those we care about or those who might try to control us-we always have the ability to choose how we respond. No matter what your age, where you live, or what is happening in your life, a great deal of what occurs in your future is up to you. If you would like to find hope for a better life in the days to come, this book is for you.

Don’t just see the sights-get to know the people. For thousands of years, the Chinese believed that they had created a perfect social system, based on Confucian values and tempered by the Mandate of Heaven. Dynasties came and went, but the essence of being Chinese remained essentially unchanged until the twentieth century. Since then, change has taken place in Chinese society at unprecedented speed, as the country first experienced the turmoil of civil war and revolution before emerging on to the world stage as a global superpower. Culture Smart! China aims to put these changes into an historical context, explain deep-seated cultural attitudes, and guide you through the maze of unfamiliar social situations, in order to help you discover for yourself the pragmatism, genius, warmth, and humanity of this extraordinary people. Have a more meaningful and successful time abroad through a better understanding of the local culture. Chapters on values, attitudes, customs, and daily life will help you make the most of your visit, while tips on etiquette and communication will help you navigate unfamiliar situations and avoid faux pas.
This cookbook, with integrated brief essays, was a regional bestseller for the University Press of Mississippi when it was published in 1989. Republished now with a new introduction, the book collects a fine black cook’s recipes from a hard-scrabble heritage of surviving and enduring while rejoicing in the family ties that bind. The foods that Kathy Starr describes rise from the common experiences of Deep South blacks, who established a distinctive style of cooking, often with make-do ingredients. Its “soul,” the author confides, comes from the art of simmering. Its heritage is preserved here in a collection that captures the essence of black foodways in the American South.
This book presents original research examining parents’ perspectives on the structure, content and delivery of parenting programmes. Late one evening, Kathy's Grandpa came to our house to see if my friend, 14-year-old Kathy was there. She wasn't, and he said she was missing. Over the next weeks, months, and years, I watched as the entire community joined in fear for their young girls and searched for my missing friend. Detectives search for the truth and hunt for the older man Kathy was last with. Facts become a tangled web of lies. There were more questions than answers as they continued the hunt for Kathy. I went to work at the local police department later that year, and over the years, followed along with the detective's investigation. As the investigation continues, the story of what happened to Kathy that night slowly comes to light. But, as circumstantial evidence piles up, the question remains: Where is Kathy? This tale covering years is deceptively fast-paced, drawing the reader into the investigation and the quest to bring Kathy home. Finally, as the investigation comes full circle, I found myself in the woods with the man who took her and helped to bring Kathy home.
