Our Sisters in the Region requested this written history to have the opportunity to tell our stories and relate this history of our beginnings in Mexico. In this interesting historical narrative, I trust that you, the reader, will find that the paths of God are unexplainable. Providence uses many ways to carry out God's plans. Our story begins with the five of us. As young women we were called without a clear understanding about the invitation that we were receiving. But the Lord knew what he wanted from us. The invitation we received was to prepare ourselves to be better catechists, without the clarity of a call or vocation to the consecrated life.

In Stuffing Cotton, Mary Christine Strobel gives an account of surviving a traumatic boat accident only to find herself less than a year later struggling with her faith when her world was shattered and turned upside down for decades by the most horrific disease you have never heard of, recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. Its destructiveness and cruelty knocked her down time and time again but she refused to accept defeat and fought to save the lives of her children. In this memoir, Mary Christine Strobel offers her insights on recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa and how Stuffing Cotton became a part of her daily life.

In this collection, Mary Christine Kane honors the complicated experience of childhood with a range of voices including a motherless child, a girl who collects toy rings and the adult looking back in longing. The poems remind us what comfort and longing feel like by opening the interior life of children--both moments like rolling down a grassy hill but also those of trying to reconcile life's hardest topics.

The Knowledge of the First Principles in Saint Thomas Aquinas

The Knowledge of the First Principles in Saint Thomas Aquinas

Mary Christine Ugobi-Onyemere

This monograph is a fundamental theme in Thomism. It deals with the basic ontological principles. From the Thomistic perspective and based on Aristotle, it studies the nature and roles of the essential principles on which reality itself is constructed. The work starts with a brief historical survey of first principles from the classical period through the modern/post-modern philosophical schools. The monograph proceeds to study Thomas Aquinas’ understanding and use of the principles along with the possibility of the knowledge of these first principles especially through their habits. It underlines the central position of the habits of the first principles in realistic philosophy. To determine their proper character, the volume juxtaposes the first ontological principles with some transcendental notions followed by the most basic practical ethical principles. Since there are no demonstrations for the first principles, the work further investigates the evidence and indirect demonstration of these first realistic crucial principles and ends with an accent on transition from principles to a wise vision that culminates in man’s relationship to reality and especially to God
