Should human beings be allowed to decide when to die? Should doctors be allowed to assist them?During the last ten years there has been much international interest in euthanasia in the Netherlands. In the discussion of euthanasia in the US and the UK, both sides in the debate continually refer to the “Dutch Experience”. Negotiating a Good Death: Euthanasia in the Netherlands presents firsthand descriptions of euthanasia in practice in the Netherlands--something that has never been done before. This will provide a deeper understanding of the issues involved for all those interested in end-of-life decisions. It will also help clinicians and other medical professionals better understand end-of-life decision making.Negotiating a Good Death is the first inside account of how decisions about euthanasia are made in real-life situations. Documenting two years of observations at a Dutch hospital, this valuable book describes why patients request euthanasia, the social factors that influence doctors’decisions about granting patients’requests, and how patients and doctors confer over peaceful deaths. Some aspects of this delicate, often hidden, and socially taboo subject that Negotiating a Good Death frankly discusses are:the emotions that lead to a wish for death the ideology of easy death the anthropology of death the role of the researcher the line between symptom alleviation and euthanasia where the responsibility lies conservative options for medical personnel how to speak to relatives of someone who has requested euthanasia euthanasia as a cultural constructThrough case studies and examples, Negotiating a Good Death: Euthanasia in the Netherlands will help you understand the issues surrounding euthanasia and how life-ending decisions are made by both doctors and patients.

As infants age, they develop a preference for black, white and eventually red colour schemes. Exposure to such patterns is an important part of early infant brain growth and encourages cognitive development. Likewise, rhyme and repetitive sounds are felt to stimulate the speech and language areas in a child's developing brain. Perry at a Parrot Party combines these starkly contrasting black and white patterns and a repetitive, rhyming story to stimulate the growing brains of infants and young children. This works to improve concentration and enhance cognitive development, supporting your baby's learning and encouraging focus from day one, all the while engaging your baby in a fun and enjoyable way.

When Perry ends up in Venice on a European tour with his band, Inchworm, he can't resist a visit to Harry's Bar, where Gobi told him she'd meet him someday. The last time he saw Gobi, five people were assassinated one crazy night in New York City. Well . . . Gobi shows up, and once again Perry is roped into a wild, nonstop thrill ride with a body count. Double crossings, kidnappings, CIA agents, arms dealers, boat chases in Venetian canals, and a shootout in the middle of a Santa Claus convention ensue.
You would think picking up a fortune cookie accidentally knocked to the floor in an oriental restaurant WOULD NOT BE LIFE THREATENING! But that was just the beginning of Perry's education in what seemed impossible ...but could actually happen. Perry thought he was just dreaming when he, as an adult, walked hand-in-hand with his great grandmother ...years before his father was even born. That's what Perry used to think. BUT NOT ANY MORE!!!
In "Smoke & Dust", Perry Woodfin sews together poems that are rooted in the everyday and that blanket romantic desire, veils of secrecy, and the mysteries behind the ordinary rituals of life. Whether just sipping coffee and watching the sea, observing raindrops slide down an airplane window, or listening to a dripping faucet, what would appear normal, reaches a new stage of poetic discovery. With flashing wit and insight Woodfin uncovers what is common to all of us with eloquent warmth and glowing passion. Illustrated by Woodfin, "Smoke & Dust" is an edgy contemporary look that speaks to life in America, a poetry book we don't want to wake from.
"Perry and Perky - The Adventures Continue" is the second picture book about the adventures of Perry, an endearing pygmy-possum, and his friend Perky, a quirky quokka. It is the sequel to "Nobody's Friend (But that's not where it ends )" and contains five different stories which are designed to be read to children up to 7 years of age. Both books were illustrated in watercolours by acclaimed Australian artist, Emma Stuart. In this latest book, Perry and Perky continue their adventures--travelling by brumby, motor bike, aeroplane and spaceship. As they travel, they meet up with a group of burrowing animals around a campfire, a patch of petunias on strike, wildlife thieves, and pear-shaped creatures from another planet. It also contains subtle life lessons. This book is also available as a hardback. The synopsis of each story is as follows: "A Peaceful Place" When the brumby they'd been travelling on needed to rest, Perry and Perky meet Winston Wombat and his burrowing friends at a campfire and they tell Perry and Perky why they are there. "The Petunia Patch" Perry dreams that the petunias have closed their petals because the insects take their nectar and pollen without permission. A petunia explains why, and from then on, everyone practised good manners. "Perky Proves He Can" Wildlife thieves capture Perry and Perky. Perry's torpor-time prevents him from doing anything about it so it's up to Perky to save them all. "Pyrusians" A spaceship carrying pear-shaped creatures from Planet Pyrus crashes into a rainforest on Earth. Cammie and Leon are playing outside the spaceship despite being told not to leave it. The children learn that disobedience has its consequences. "Planet Pyrus" Cammie and Leon go back to school after returning to Planet Pyrus. When Cammie says there is life on other planets, she is called a liar. Pyrusians were just green, pear-shaped blobs didn't believe anything else was possible. She and Leon brought Perry and Perky to school as proof. In due course, Pyrus becomes ablaze with colour.
