She hates him. He doesn’t understand her. Alice and Robbie: two youngsters forced to step reluctantly fast towards adulthood and marriage. Layered, lyrical, atmospheric: this is a book to engage and enthrall older children, young adults and those of any age who like to adventure in Tudor England. In 1520s England, Alice, twelve years old, daughter of impoverished Sir Lionel and Lady Catherine, is to be married to Robbie, the fourteen-year-old son of an up-and-coming family of Bristol merchants. Sir Lionel, together with Robbie’s father, is seeking to nudge King Henry into supporting exploration and enterprise in distant, just-discovered lands. However, unexpected opposition suddenly threatens not only their plans, but also their lives.
Young love and conviction clash with authority in sixteenth-century England in this exciting and vividly written novel. Challenging times are tenderly and evocatively portrayed in ‘Robbie and Alice – Tudor Voyage’: the second book of Robbie and Alice’s Tudor adventures. 1521. England’s Cardinal Wolsey, doggedly pursuing his ambition to be elected Pope, plots to challenge Spain’s new American empire and so gain prestige from the King of France. Robbie, fifteen years old and Alice, thirteen, find themselves unwittingly at the hub of Wolsey’s plot. Together they do their utmost – while on a journey that takes them to the far side of the world - to thwart it. ‘Robbie and Alice - Tudor Voyage’ is a coming-of-age novel that anyone interested in life in Tudor England should enjoy.
Description ‘Robbie and Alice – Tudor Reformation’ is a highly entertaining and greatly engaging novel, suitable for readers aged 12 to 112. Within it, Tudor England comes vividly to life: the challenges of those who are young in particular. Christmas 1521. Robbie (15) and Alice (13) face terrible danger because of their friendship with a priest who promotes controversial opinions. A warning letter, sent to Alice by Beatrice (10 years old), sparks pursuit. Henry VIII’s chancellor, Thomas Wolsey, seeks the arrest and death of the priest. A chase to Europe ensues: an underworld of reformist idealists is encountered: the certainties of a thousand years are challenged.
"Known Some Call Is Air Am" Problems with Postmodern Narrative Identities in Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves and B.S. Johnson's Albert Angelo

Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves and B.S. Johnson's Albert Angelo both employ interesting and differing modes of narration: in House of Leaves three different levels of narration compete for attention, and in some aspects, veracity; and Albert Angelo juggles first, second and third person narration before the author himself enters as narrator. This study examines how the postmodern nature of both texts creates problematic narrative identities within them. Fittingly for a movement that is notoriously difficult to define, postmodernism seems to create problems for those seeking stable and fixed identities amongst individuals. It is this problem that this book highlights within the medium of postmodernist literature by paying particular attention to the fragmented nature of its narratorship, and examining if Jean Baudrillard's theories on consumerism and simulations, and Jean-Fran ois Lyotard's notions of grand and mini-narratives are to blame.

Robbie Petty's life covered a long period of time: from the 1890s through the second half of the twentieth century. The events she witnessed - and those in which she participated - portray life at the time and provide lessons applicable for today. Robbie's life, while seemingly normal, was filled with devastating personal loss and the rewards of unexpected love, leading her to strongly believe, "Learn from yesterday, live for today, and hope for tomorrow."
Robbie is lonely at home with his parents in the Port of Arlen, his father is strict, his school is brutal and he lives in a world of his own, an imaginary place in which he is a detective, finding out secrets. When he gets a pair of binoculars, this world expands to show him a place full of shadows, of mysteries and of menace. He has to face difficult challenges, fight for what he thinks is right and stay loyal to those he loves.
Once in a while a book is produced that captures the energy and spirit of the world of rock. Somebody Someday was published to massive popular and critical acclaim in September 2001. It shot straight to No 1 in the bestseller lists and proceeded to spend 14 weeks in the top 3. The insight, honesty and humour of the book was unprecedented. The photographic quality and design innovation; no more than this pop icon deserved. In short it was a triumph. For the paperback edition Robert P. Williams and Mark McCrum have delved even further into the phenomenon that is Robbie - covering his million selling 2001 album and looking at changes in his professional, family, social and love lives. Dynamically repackaged in a tempting trade paperback and including new photographs, this is a fitting follow up 2001's most successful hardback - Somebody Someday.
