Michael Palmer är en av USA:s mest framstående samtida poeter. Hans poesi är nära förbunden med den amerikanska s.k. language-skolan, som blivit mycket uppmärksammad i Sverige på senare år, men den har också rötter i en modern europeisk tradition. Sol (1988) markerar en höjdpunkt i hans författarskap. I denna ambitiöst anlagda diktsvit förenar han språklig och politisk medvetenhet med ett intensivt personligt sökande i villkoren för liv och kommunikation. Michael Palmer föddes i New York 1943. Han har sedan 1970-talet givit ut ett stort antal diktsamlingar och belönats med flera prestigefyllda priser och stipendier. 1999 blev han invald i The Academy of American Poets. Han är bosatt i San Francisco.
