Diesem dort anzutreffenden, nahezu un berschaubaren Spektrum von Ursachen und Einfl ssen gerecht zu werden bersteigt bei weitem die M glichkeiten dieser Arbeit und soll auch nicht ihr Anliegen sein. Die hier vorliegende Arbeit soll einen Versuch darstellen, f r den augenscheinlichen aber oft als voreiligen Schluss scharf kritisierten, Zusammenhang der W hlerverluste der liberalen Parteien1 bei gleichzeitigen Wahlstimmengewinnen der NSDAP, ein Erkl rungsmodell vorzustellen. Dabei soll besonders der Aspekt der "stillen S kularisierung"2 als Ursache untersucht und seine Bedeutsamkeit herausgearbeitet werden. Es ist nicht im Sinne dieser Arbeit sich in jeglicher Weise in der Kontroverse um die Verantwortung f r das Scheitern der Weimarer Republik zu positionieren. Es geht lediglich um den Versuch einen Zusammenhang aufzuzeigen, der von gro er Bedeutung zu seien scheint, bisher aber wenig in der Fachliteratur auseinandergesetzt wurde. Einer vom Umfang her der Fragestellung entsprechenden Identifikation der W hlerschaft der liberalen Parteien, soll eine berpr fung folgen, inwieweit berhaupt der Einfluss der Konfession f r das Wahlverhalten von Bedeutung war. Sich daran anschlie e sei der Prozess der S kularisierung skizziert. Die sich daraus folgernden Schl sse und Zusammenh nge werden abschlie end Ausgewertet und zusammengefasst.
