Queerly Cosmopolitan

An ethnography of urban citizenship, global belonging, and queerness in a rapidly growing provincial city in the Global South, Queerly Cosmopolitan explores how people develop a sense of belonging in a city understood by many to be “unimportant” and “in the middle of nowhere.” In his exploration of the city of Teresina and its inhabitants’ attempts to establish a sense of belonging and self-worth, Timothy Eugene Murphy creatively employs queer theory to investigate a community of bohemians. As he follows the participants through different realms of life—nocturnal bohemia, work, family, and intimate friendships—Murphy demonstrates how widely circulating cultural forms, from music to sexuality, offer upwardly mobile communities ways to fashion cosmopolitan lives in even the most peripheral locations.

The Kingom of God: What it means to the life of the believer

Eugene H. Merrill "Timothy Lin's conviction is that the Kingdom of God is the central theme of biblical theology, a conviction clearly established and defended in this important work. But his approach is not just a matter of theoretical theological reflection with no real relevance to the contemporary believer and his world. Rather, he shows how the believer is even now in the Kingdom and how he must discharge his responsibilities and privileges as a citizen of that realm. This book, then, is nothing short of a manual for Kingdom living."Eugene H. Merrill, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Old Testament Studies, Dallas Theological SeminaryLeslie M. Frazier "This very difficult issue of the Kingdom in Scripture is made both relevant and practical to the believer today. Dr. Lin distinguishes the Kingdom in Preparation and the Kingdom as the Future Inheritance. Therefore, the theme of the Kingdom brings continuity to all Scripture. With great skill, Dr. Lin brings the issues of the present Christian life and its development into meaningful goal orientation in the future Kingdom. Theological insight in the nature of man is displayed in the discussions of nous (mind) and self, etc. This work will prove useful to teach the Kingdom and its importance to the Christian today."Leslie M. Frazier, Ph.D., Far East Director, Baptist International Missions, Inc.Eugene Kimble "I believe this book is the best one available to lead Christians to a knowledge of what the "Kingdom of God" really is . It has the potential to bring a spiritual renewal of life and a dedication to live daily for the Lord Jesus Christ to the reader, a life filled with joy in actively pursuing obedience to His will, thus fulfilling theses Scriptures: "Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." 1 Cor. 15:58 and "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full." John 15:10-11. Eugene Kimble, Ph.D., is a member of the "Christian Business Men's Connection." He also is active at College Park Church in Indianapolis where he serves as a Deacon and as a Mentor of young adults in the Discipleship Ministry. He and Joanne have three adult children: Becky, Jane & John

The Indispensable University describes the innovative transformation of institutions of higher education (HEIs) across the world, in response to the emerging realities of the twenty-first century global knowledge-based economy, as well as describes how HEIs are defining many of today's economic realities on a regional level. HEIs continue to drive economic development through their traditional roles of purchaser, employer, real estate developer, workforce developer and community developer. But these roles now must be executed more strategically and collaboratively. Also, the twenty-first century economy offers universities unique opportunities to generate the intellectual and financial capital that drives emerging knowledge-based industries. Case studies are drawn from: urban America; rural America; Europe; the Middle East; and emerging countries. Some of the topics covered include the following: the role of university presidents as change leaders; the relationship between higher education institutions and the political leadership of cities, states, and nations; successful models of partnerships between higher education and the private sector; and future challenges and opportunities facing the modern university.

Handbook of Marital Therapy: A Positive Approach to Helping Troubled Relationships

In the treatment of marital problems, behaviorally oriented and com munication oriented approaches have been in conflict and seen as con trasting and unlikely bed partners. Many therapists, focusing on com munication skills, have felt that behaviorists were too structured and uncaring; on the other hand, behaviorists have considered humanistic therapists as being "touchy-feely," vague, and unfocused. However, in the Handbook of Marital Therapy, Liberman, Wheeler, de Visser, and the Kuehnels have wedded these two potent approaches into an inte grated framework that makes them loving bed partners. With over a decade of experience in applying behaviorally ori ented treatment to couples, Liberman and his co-authors have devel oped an educational model that focuses on teaching specific commu nication skills to couples. The communication skills they describe have been used extensively in all types of marital therapy, regardless of the therapist's theoretical orientation. The unique contribution of this book is that the authors provide a step-by-step approach to teaching these communication skills within a behavioral framework. Each chapter guides the therapist through the many issues and problems confronting him or her as a change agent. This highly readable book is enhanced by a liberal use of case exam ples. Emphasis is given to homework and structured sessions that focus on increasing specific communication skills in a sequential manner. The advantages of working with couples in a group setting are dis cussed, and concrete suggestions on how to manage these groups are clearly presented.

The international system appears headed for a renewed era of intense competition among major powers. The authors sought to identify the factors that keep such rivalries stable and those that lead to conflictual outcomes. Leveraging theory and historical case studies, the authors created a framework for assessing the stability of a strategic rivalry, then applied it to the current U.S.-Russia and U.S.-China competitions.
