Significant research activities have taken place in the areas of local and global optimization in the last two decades. Many new theoretical, computational, algorithmic, and software contributions have resulted. It has been realized that despite these numerous contributions, there does not exist a systematic forum for thorough experimental computational testing and· evaluation of the proposed optimization algorithms and their implementations. Well-designed nonconvex optimization test problems are of major impor tance for academic and industrial researchers interested in algorithmic and software development. It is remarkable that eventhough nonconvex models dominate all the important application areas in engineering and applied sci ences, there is only a limited dass of reported representative test problems. This book reflects our long term efforts in designing a benchmark database and it is motivated primarily from the need for nonconvex optimization test problems. The present collection of benchmarks indudes test problems from literature studies and a large dass of applications that arise in several branches of engineering and applied science.

A Collection of Letters: and Mr Harley, Mr Clifford and Sir William Mountague
Jane Austen, one of the nation’s most beloved authors, whose face adorns our currency, surely needs no introduction, but while many are familiar with her groundbreaking novels, few have come across the brilliantly funny short tales she wrote when young. This collection of epistolary short stories is a charming and satirical assortment that showcases the young Austen’s budding talent and lays the foundations of the works yet to come.
A Little Manual of the Poor Man's Daily Devotion, Collected out of Several Pious and Approved Authors. By W. C. In Which are Added, the Jesus-Psalter, With a Litany of our Saviour's Passion; ... The Fifth Edition
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. Some people put their life and health at risk to save others. It is in their blood. This book commemorates them. This is a personal story of Cliff Bauman's journey as a Pentagon 9/11 volunteer first responder and his experience with trauma and survivor's guilt. The story told here explores how he overcame his difficulties and saved many lives, from putting himself at risk rescuing sailors, to speaking to large groups about the importance of seeking help and becoming a "Mental Health Warrior." Among the pages of this book is the story of Cliff and other first responders, as well as insight on the nature of trauma's effect on people. Along the way are lessons from forensic psychology and the suicide prevention field on how and why reaching out for help can be a bridge . . . from suicide . . . to hope.

The Uneasy Conscience of a White Christian

The Uneasy Conscience of a White Christian

Clifford Williams

Do White people bear moral responsibility for racial disparities? Are White Christians under a spiritual mandate to make racial equity a priority? Clifford Williams taught philosophy at Christian colleges for many years, including a course on race. He has journeyed alongside students as they gained insights about racism. In this book, he draws from deeply personal stories as he shows the need for White Christians to recognize the impact of racism and to cultivate key character traits which enable them to pursue racial equity. In succinct and thoughtful prose, interwoven with first-person accounts of racialized experiences by people of color, Williams describes the importance of the Golden Rule, the power and effects of racial socialization, and the harm racism does to those who harbor it. He asks the haunting question, ""Why do White people react so strongly to Black power?"" He explains why widespread church integration in the United States may never exist. He unpacks the concept of White identity and links police brutality to faulty moral perception. This book gently explains what White Christians need to do to make racial equity a priority.
