th Although photography has its beginning in the 17 century, it was only in the 1920’s that photography emerged as a science. And as with other s- ences, mathematics began to play an increasing role in the development of photography. The mathematical models and problems encountered in p- tography span a very broad spectrum, from the molecular level such as the interaction between photons and silver halide grains in image formation, to chemical processing in ?lm development and issues in manufacturing and quality control. In this book we present mathematical models that arise in today’s p- tographic science. The book contains seventeen chapters, each dealing with oneareaofphotographicscience.Eachchapter, exceptthetwointroductory chapters, begins with general background information at a level understa- able by graduate and undergraduate students. It then proceeds to develop a mathematical model, using mathematical tools such as Ordinary Di?erential Equations, Partial Di?erential Equations, and Stochastic Processes. Next, some mathematical results are mentioned, often providing a partial solution to problemsraisedby the model. Finally, mostchaptersinclude problems.By the nature of the subject, there is quite a bit ofdisparity in the mathematical level of the various chapters.

In "Aristotle: The Theory of Metaphysics," Aristotle delves into the intricacies of existence, substance, and the nature of reality, establishing a foundational text that shapes philosophical discourse. Through a dialectical approach, Aristotle employs a rigorous analytical style, painstakingly dissecting concepts such as being, causality, and the essence of things. This work emerges within the rich tapestry of ancient Greek philosophy, responding to and refining ideas from predecessors like Plato while paving the way for subsequent philosophical inquiry, thus standing as a cornerstone in metaphysical thought. Aristotle, a polymath educated in the philosophical traditions of Socrates and Plato, synthesized empirical observation with abstract reasoning, greatly influencing diverse fields such as science, ethics, and politics. His experiences in the Lyceum and mentorship under Plato exposed him to critical philosophical debates of his time, fueling his desire to understand the foundational principles that govern all entities. This scholarly journey reflects Aristotle's unwavering quest to comprehend the nature of reality and knowledge itself. For students, scholars, and anyone intrigued by the depths of existence, "The Theory of Metaphysics" serves as an essential guide to understanding fundamental philosophical inquiries. Aristotle's meticulous exploration encourages readers to reflect on the principles that underpin their own existences, making this text not only a historical artifact but also a timeless resource for modern philosophical reflection.

Meet Fizzy Oceans-archivist, researcher, environmentalist and adventurer. On her travels she witnesses The Exodus, the Battle of Gettysburg and Hurricane Katrina, as well as many other historical and real time events. She meets notable individuals including Gandhi, Mark Twain, Jacques Cousteau, The Dalai Lama, Saddam Hussein and even a new species called the Quinngen.Such unique experiences and encounters spanning the world and time as we know them would not be possible for a single individual-especially not for a woman named Amy Birkenstock who works as a medical clerk in Seattle, Washington-but Fizzy Oceans, Amy's digital alter ego, is not in Physical Life. She lives, works and travels in the virtual world where the dead are very much alive, places like ancient Babylon and Pompeii have been reconstructed, and with the click of a button-WHOOSH -one is transported throughout the Ages to events and destinations that make up our human history.Even as Amy's physical life existence is challenged by encroaching environmental disaster, economic instability, and societal breakdown, Fizzy's virtual world offers instant realization of vision and inspiration. The Virtual Life of Fizzy Oceans imagines the bridging of two worlds-the literal and the metaphorical-and questions what it is we have created, what has been lost, and what might be possible for us as individuals and for the Human Race.
Sometimes the only way to find yourself is to leave behind everything you've ever known... and become a stranger.Abandoning a life filled with loss of family, love, and personal integrity, Doran Seeger is flying through a blinding storm on his way to a political awakening in Amsterdam, an unexpected affair in the Swiss Alps, a brush-by encounter on a train platform and the serendipitous discovery of a wadded up handbill that will lead him into a land where a gleefully absurd culture still embraces real civility: Greece.
Recently divorced and made redundant from his job, Julian Crosby needs a break from reality. That's why he's gone to Hawaii...If his personal circumstances had been different-if he were simply on a two-week vacation in Maui with his now former wife-then he surely would have laughed and said "no" to the outrageous offer from the funny-looking Hawaiian wearing a loud tropical shirt with an equally loud, not to mention obnoxious, blue and yellow parrot named Buenaventura perched upon his shoulder to buy a rundown boat called Scoundrel. But that was then and this is now... Or is it?Meanwhile, sixty years ago, Amelia Earhart is getting ready for her much publicized flight around the world. Is this daring adventure to be her final flight, her swan song? Or is she actually on a reconnaissance mission for President Roosevelt? And what does her ill-fated flight have to do with Julian, his innocent Hawaiian holiday and his newly-acquired boat? As Buenaventura reveals, "Only time will tell" as their two worlds unexpectedly and impossibly collide. In this award-winning novel a weekend sailor shipwrecked on an uncharted atoll in the South Seas eventually discovers the island's only other human inhabitant-a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to 1930s lost flying ace Amelia Earhart.

Several moons hang low over the islands of Aguaterre within the Great Volcanic Ring, where earthquakes, volcanoes and roiling sea make for a rough existence. But the world is changing, the political landscape is shifting, many dangers approach but people have secret hopes for something better. Garrison, beaten and berated, knows there's more to life than the chores of the farm and forge, and abuse from his blacksmithing father. Ellinvale, trapped in a walled estate within a walled city, chafes at the time-honoured tradition of matchmaking that limits her future as a woman. The Dragon King, protected in his high tower, studies the impassable Churn, a long swath of frothy ocean that likes to smash his ships to pieces against the jagged rocks of the Maw. He needs to send battalions of Amphibians across the Churn if he is to achieve his ambition-to reign over the world. When Garrison sets out alone on a special trip beyond Crossroads to deliver his father's wares, it puts them all on a path of convergence that could change the course of their futures. The Ritual is the first book in the Chronicles of Garrison series. At its core, it's a story of good versus evil, the strength of friendship and the discovery that there is power within.
