Edwin Forrest was the foremost American actor of the nineteenth century. His advocacy of American, and specifically Jacksonian, themes made him popular in New York's Bowery Theatre. His rivalry with the English tragedian William Charles Macready led to the Astor Place Riot, and his divorce from Catharine Sinclair Forrest was one of the greatest social scandals of the period. This full-length biography examines Forrest's personal life while acknowledging the impossibility of separating it from his public image. Included is a historical chronology of every known performance the actor gave.
The great nineteenth-century stage actor Edwin Booth began his long career in 1849 as a young teenager, following in his father's footsteps. This biography traces his life and career as a tragic actor, including his childhood; his early acting tours of California, Australia and Hawaii; his rise to fame as a touring star; his two marriages; his relationship with his brother John Wilkes Booth; his disastrous management of Booth's Theatre in New York City; and his death in 1891. The book includes an extensive performance history detailing every known Edwin Booth performance during his more than 30 years on the stage, with reviews and other supplementary materials.

Because of the recent agitation of the pure food question throughout the country, health officers and food-inspectors, are constantly called upon to test the purity of various foods and this usually involves nothing more than making simple qualitative tests for adulterants. In view of the fact that there is now no text or manual devoted exclusively to the qualitative examination of foods, this little book is offered to those who are interested in this work. Its aim is to bring together in one small book the best and simplest qualitative tests for all the common food adulterants. It contains a brief statement of the adulterants likely to be found and the reason for their use. It is hoped that it will be specially valuable to food safety labs in furnishing excellent supplementary work in qualitative analysis. But it is hoped that it will find its greatest usefulness in contributing something toward the great pure food reform. The updated version includes all protocols collected from the original Edwin M Bruce book and 210 simple protocols collected from The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation Organization, 29 protocols from The Directorate of Prevention and Food Adulteration, Government of Delhi, India and Directorate of Marketing & Inspection (DMI), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India and 129 protocols from the "Quick test for some adulterants in foods" an instruction manual developed by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Government of India.

This collection of unique stage plays includes historical action/adventure stories based on real life figures such as Emily D. West, Estevanico and it includes a modern day drama based on the life of a young drug dealer. "La Fuente Vive" is an action/adventure story about a Spanish Conquistador seeking the fountain of youth in Americas to cure his dying wife's illness. "Amarilla" is an action/adventure story inspired by the true folk heroine Emily D. West who played a huge role for the Texas Revolution with the The Battle of San Jacinto. "Estevanico" is an action/adventure story inspired by true explorer Estevanico, the first known black man to arrive in America as a member of the Spanish expedition details his journey in the mainland. "Angeles y Banditos" is a drama that follows a young man's life as a drug dealer and the troubles that comes with his work. This collection of plays is written to the best of my abilities to appeal in an entertaining way to this great melting pot we call America. The mere word play has a meaning of an activity that people engage in for mere entertainment or enjoyment. Therefore as a playwright, I feel that it is my duty to create a piece of literature in which the dialogue and the actions of our characters entertain and bring joy to the audience.
