Der heutige Bau der St. Aldegundiskirche wurde 449– 5 4 anstelle der durch Brand zerstörten alten Pfarrkirche errichtet. Nach der Zerstörung Emmerichs im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde sie weitgehend in den alten Formen wiederaufgebaut. Die Emmericher Pfarrkirche präsentiert sich heute als architektonische Sonderform, und zwar als Stufenhalle. Der Außenbau ist von dem Rot des Ziegelmauerwerks und dem quadratischen Westturm aus Tuff geprägt. Im Inneren tragen ebenfalls aus Formziegeln gemauerte Pfeiler die Arkaden zwischen den Seitenschiffen. Durch die weißen Wände und viele teils klar verglaste Fenster wirkt der Raum dennoch hell. Zum Inventar der Kirche gehören eine Vielzahl gotischer Heiligenfiguren aus Holz und eine Kopie des Columba-Altars Rogier van der Weydens.
