The largest and oldest Christmas market in Munich was first documented as a Nikolaimarkt (Nikolausmarkt) in 1310, making it one of the oldest Christmas markets in the German-speaking world. It started as the Welcoming of Christ the Child Christ Kind in German at the beginning of the four Sundays of Advent that ends with Christmas Day, which is the 25 December. The Christmas market is a fair connected with the seasonal period and infused with our religion, which very much organized everybody s lives back then. In Medieval times, rights to hold fairs were often granted by the feudal lords to convents and bishoprics both as income generation for the religious work and as a city development tool. Many towns trace their prosperity to the market rights. The close association between the local cathedral and the Christmas market is still evident although the taxes now go elsewhere.

Viewing Osaka through the series 100 Views of Naniwa (Osaka) is an amazing experience. It is a well executed repetition over a format by Hiroshige. Some add a Famous to the title. This series is by three artists, Utagawa Yoshitaki, Utagawa Kunikazu and Nansuitei Yoshiyuki. All 104 prints are included here. Hiroshige I created his revolutionary series 100 Famous Views of Edo over three years, 1856 1859. This led to the publishing of copy series 100 Views of Naniwa (Osaka) by other artists. The book here is based mainly on prints in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Osaka Municipal Museum collections.

The variety far exceeds what you would expect in a country smaller than Rhode Island. The book was an unplanned accident. In Florida Cakes we continued the habit of taking pictures of some of the cakes we purchased. Our life took us to the sunny beaches of Florida for a while. The cake designs in Florida are just incredible. Now back in Europe we had business in Spain and especially in Catalonia, which we enjoyed during a number of months. Again, we took advantage of its uniquely enjoyable cake shops bombonierie making the most wonderful cakes pastis in Catalan - some which are not found elsewhere. There must be at least one thousand cake shops and cafes in Barcelona alone serving these great specialities. We will try to discover some of the secrets behind this formidable variety and quality of Catalan pastis Catalan cakes. Bei unseren Recherchen ber den spanischen Maler Joaqu n Sorolla stie en wir auf ein wunderbares Gem lde seiner Frau mit Katze und Hund, Clotilde y gato y perro, aus dem Jahr 1910. Als Tierliebhaber entstand die Idee zu sehen, wie Katzen um die Zeit von Sorolla in der Malerei dargestellt wurden. Fr here Maler hatten Probleme damit, die Proportionen richtig hinzubekommen, insbesondere bei den Gesichtern, aber im 19. Jahrhundert gab es in Europa eine enorme Talententwicklung.
