The duo's performative interrogations of architecture excavate political and gender normsThe Paris-based American artists Brennan Gerard and Ryan Kelly (born 1978 and 1979) have collaborated for nearly two decades on performance, video and installation projects blending the movement of conceptualist dance, the strategies of appropriation and institutional critique and the tenets of queer theory. They are perhaps best known for their site-specific dance videos. By staging choreographic and cinematographic works at locations such as Philip Johnson's Glass House or the Maison Carr e temple, the duo rereads architectural icons, subverting their original bourgeois and patriarchal usage and questioning assumptions of gender, sexuality, memory and history. This book documents the duo's first museum survey exhibition at Carr d'art-Mus e d'art contemporain de N mes. The catalog gathers together an extensive array of their video installations, sculptures, site-specific interventions, performances and works on paper.

Even though Gerard Verdijk (1934-2005) passed away at the beginning of this century, many still remember him as a striking and versatile artist. From the middle of the 20th century until the beginning of the 21st century he was active within a wide area of the visual arts. He was a poetic and philosophical man who manifested his creativity through a wide range of materials and techniques. He was a curious man, eager to learn, who travelled through Europe, Turkey, The Middle-East, North-America, Africa and Japan to get acquainted with other cultures. He cannot be placed within one art-historical movement. The ever-changing world around him influenced his style and the use of his materials. When generalised his works can be placed in a few style periods: Abstract/Informal, Zero/Pop-Art, Fluor/ Perspex and Zen/Haiku. In all these periods spaciousness, movement and repetition are recognisable elements. In the 13 years after his passing in 2005, the life and works of Gerard Verdijk were meticulously documented by his wife Josephine Sloet. This monograph, a true "life's work" of 396 pages with 200 large images of his works came into being at Gerard's own request. He was also clear about the book's motto: The Mountain of Einstein. According to Albert Einstein, the creation of some something new can be compared to climbing a mountain, where one would obtain changing and growing perspectives along the way and would discover unsuspected connections between our customs and the rich variety of our environment.
Gerard Van Swieten and His World 1700–1772
QU ALITIES, QUERIES, AND REPUTE Holland has bred its share of remarkable men and Gerard van Swieten was one of them. Raised in Leiden by fairly prosperous Catholic parents, educated at Louvain and Leiden, acknowledged as one of the most gifted pupils of the famed scientist Herman Boerhaave, and an eminent doctor in his native city for many years, he became chief physician at the Court of Vienna, director of the Imperial Library, head of both the Vienna Medical Faculty and the Censorship Commission, and trusted councillor of the Empress Maria Theresa. There is a short street in Leiden that presently honors his name and his figure is one of those surrounding the Empress on her imposing memorial in Vienna. What sort of man was this who travelled so far? What achievements, what qualities deserve such remembrances? Why a study of his life? Gerard van Swieten worked no miracles. He accomplished no "diplo matic revolution," commanded no victorious army, helped to change no political boundary, wrote no literary masterpiece, proposed no radically new or notable scientific theory. More of an organizer than an innovator, more of an administrator than an orginator, he was content to compile, to put together, to comment upon, to explain the discoveries of others and to manipulate the given situations presented to him. He seldom initiated. He followed through.

Gerard Brennan's Articles and Speeches, Volume 2
Looking back on his public life in the law, Sir Gerard Brennan said, 'It has been a great adventure to have been in the company of those whom I have respected for their devotion to justice according to law, not least when we have not been unanimous in our definitions of the law.' In these two volumes of my father's extra-judicial writings and speeches, I set out some of the key landmarks, some of the many quandaries, and many of the little nudges made by him in his contribution to the law and to what he was fond of calling a free and confident nation. His contributions to administrative law and the jurisprudence of judicial review have been set out in The Brennan Legacy: Blowing the winds of legal orthodoxy edited by Professors Robin Creyke and Patrick Keyzer in 2002. Jeff Fitzgerald published a detailed biography Sir Gerard Brennan: The Law's Good Servant in 2024. Hopefully this collection, letting him speak for himself, can complement existing publications reflecting on his judicial method and achievements. This second volume contains his views on Aboriginal land rights, an Australian republic and international recognition of human rights as well as key insights into faith and reason which he shared with Christian lawyers and Catholic social service organisations. Fr Frank Brennan SJ, editor Fr Frank Brennan SJ AO, a son of Sir Gerard, is Adjunct Professor at the Thomas More Law School at ACU and Adjunct Research Professor at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture. He chaired the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance's Review of the Australian Journalists' Code of Ethics. He chaired the National Human Rights Consultation for the Rudd Government and was a member of the Turnbull Government's expert panel which conducted the Religious Freedom Review. The Morrison Government appointed him to the Voice Co-Design Senior Advisory Group to help guide the Co-Design process to develop options for an Indigenous voice to parliament. His Order of Australia was for services to Aboriginal Australians, particularly as an advocate in the areas of law, social justice and reconciliation. He is the author of 16 books.

Kaikilla on elämässään vaikeuksia 15-vuotiaana. Hektorilla niitä on ehkä liikaakin. Gérard eli tartu miekkaasi on osittain omaelämäkerrallinen tarina.

Gerard Stamp’s oeuvre occupies a distinctive position within contemporary watercolour practice, marked by a disciplined attention to architectural form and an acute sensitivity to light. His paintings demonstrate a rigorous observational method that transcends mere topographical record, instead articulating the historical, material, and spatial intelligence embedded within the built environment. Stamp’s restrained palette and controlled tonal transitions reveal an artist deeply attuned to what Ruskin described as ‘the golden stain of time’: the way stone can seem to absorb history, how illumination shapes perception, and how silence can be rendered visually. This monograph situates his work within a lineage of architectural draughtsmanship while recognising the singularity of his contribution — a body of work that synthesises technical virtuosity with a contemplative, romantic sensibility.

Image desesperement cryptee. Manset echappe...
