Statistische Verfahren werden sowohl in der Wirtschaft als auch in den Natur- und Sozialwissenschaften eingesetzt. Die Statistik gilt trotzdem als schwierig. This book is a translation of the up-dated version of my German textbook that was written parallel to my lecture "Design of Experiments" which I held at the University of Munich. It was often called to my attention by statisticians in the pharmaceutical in- dustry, that there is a need for a summarizing and standardized representation of the design and analysis of experiments, that includes the different aspects of classical theory for continuous response and of modern procedures for categori- cal and especially correlated response, as well as more complex designs, as for example cross-over and repeated measures. My staff and graduate students played an essential part in the preparation of the manuscript. They wrote the text in well-tried precision (Andreas Fie- ger), worked out examples (Andreas Fieger, Christian Kastner), and prepared several sections in this book (Ulrike Feldmeier, Sabina Illi, Elke Ortmann, An- drea Schopp, Irmgard Strehler, Christian Kastner, Oliver Loch). I am appreciative of the efforts of those who assisted in the preparation of the English version. In particular, I would like to thank Sabina Illi and Oliver Loch, as well as V.K. The 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for the discovery of cosmic acceleration due to dark energy, a discovery that is all the more perplexing as nobody knows what dark energy actually is. We put the modern concept of cosmological vacuum energy into historical context and show how it grew out of disparate roots in quantum mechanics (zero-point energy) and relativity theory (the cosmological constant, Einstein's “greatest blunder”). These two influences have remained strangely aloof and still co-exist in an uneasy alliance that is at the heart of the greatest crisis in theoretical physics, the cosmological-constant problem.

W hrungs- und Wechselkursprobleme werden h ufig ffentlich diskutiert. Sowohl die fixen als auch die flexiblen Wechselkurse haben ihre F rsprecher und Gegner. Die vorliegende Seminararbeit gibt zun chst eine Einordnung in die Begrifflichkeit des Wechselkurssystems und des Devisenmarktes. Im Anschluss daran werden fixe und flexible Wechselkurssysteme erl utert und kritisch verglichen. Im weiteren Verlauf dieser Arbeit wird auf die verschiedenen Auswirkungen geldpolitischer Ma nahmen eingegangen und es werden Inflations- und Konjunktur bertragungen sowohl bei fixen als auch bei flexiblen Wechselkursen erl utert. Da diese Seminararbeit vom Umfang begrenzt ist, werden nur die wesentlichen Punkte erl utert und teilweise nur ein berblick ber die Thematik gegeben. Das Fazit schlie t die Arbeit ab.
