Delightful tales of hunting and fishing, family, friends, dogs, and precious time well spent and cherished Nationally recognized and award-winning writer Jim Mize captures the true essence of sport and living life to the fullest in this collection of stories about his outdoor escapades. In tales spanning more than five decades, Mize invites readers into carefree days hiking through the Colorado Rockies with a fly rod and leisurely casting poppers to bluegill on small southern ponds. Cold days shivering in a duck blind or deer hunting trips lost in fog all make for fine memories. And then there are the dogs. Meet boot-eating Labs, setters with fine noses, and a Brittany Spaniel that loved to bounce through frosted kudzu. Mize's humorous stories entertain and remind readers of their own turkey hunting or creek fishing excursions. Black-and-white line drawings from artist Bob White illustrate stories filled with laughter, quiet contemplation, and wonder. Mize reminds the young and old that the pleasure of the pursuit matters most.
A three year-old boy disappears from a public park, in full daylight, and no one sees a thing-not even the child's mother. In a city of millions, with not a single clue left in the park for Detective Tommy Keane, the suspects could be endless. Where does he start to investigate? And what will he uncover? Are the answers on the streets he knows so well? Or hidden online, deep within the dark web?

"Jon, my husband, took his own life at the age of 35. He left for work at 7.30, as usual. He kissed me, and our two children, as usual. He told me he loved me, which was not usual, but that didn't occur to me until later."Sue Henderson candidly recounts the experience of raising her family as a single parent survivor of suicide. Alongside an honest and moving account of the day-to-day practicalities and emotional impact of Jon's death, there's advice on how to talk to children about death and suicide, how to support them as they grow up, and how to be aware of the heightened emotional risks for bereaved children. She also draws on her experience as a social worker of 25 years to provide a theoretical framework for the book in which she discusses theories of grief and bereavement, issues of men's mental health, and the heightened incidence of male suicide.
After thirty years of people watching and collecting stories at social events, I would recount some of these stories and friends would say you should write a book, so finally, I have. Next time you visit a public house, hopefully after reading this book, you will have an insight into what is happening. When the conversation stops as you enter, it is not necessarily you; other customers may be checking that you are not the person they have been talking about. You will have an insight into why people move from one room to another, or couples are not what they first appear, to mention a few. My last job before I entered the pub trade was a lock keeper on the Shropshire Union Canal. Afterwards, I wrote a book called "A Towpath Guide To The Birmingham And Liverpool Junction Canal" (which was the section of the SUC I worked on). I wanted people who only travelled on the canal once to benefit from the knowledge I had gained over 12 years. The publisher did not pay me any royalties, so I am not sure how many benefited from this knowledge, but it is still for sale on Amazon. I hope people who read this book enjoy it as well as learn from it.

Luke's mum is dead. He finds himself in a small, scruffy northern hill town, with a near silent father, who he fears might be trying to drink himself to death. Then he meets Jon. Jon is massively strange. He wears 1950s clothes, has a side-parting and a twitch. The kids at school call him 'Slackjaw'. When Luke discovers his secret, Jon changes his life in more ways than he can imagine. Luke and Jon is a coming of age novel about family, bereavement and how lives can change forever in a single second. Written with great power, warmth and humour, it signals a hugely engaging and original new voice. Compelling and emotionally acute, it is a unique debut.

With a seamless weave of letters, reminiscences, poems and journal entries, Sikelianos creates a loving portrait-and an unblinking indictment-of her father. Jon, a multitalented, eccentric visionary, emerges as a brilliant, charming, irresponsible, frustrating, and ultimately tragic hero. This is a saga of the rise and fall of family lines-a tale marked by bohemia, Greek poets, intellectuals, drugs and homelessness. It is the story of eccentrics and survivors, the strength of personal vision and the nature of addiction, and what it does to families. An exquisitely rendered exploration of the harrowing and motivating forces of family, history, and individual choices. Eleni Sikelianos' previous books include Earliest Worlds and the National Poetry Series winner The Monster Lives of Boys & Girls. She lives in Boulder, CO.
