April Simonson hated all men. They were cruel, sinful beasts. Her disfigured face was proof. That is until she met Jerek Brinkley. Then, as the revered Sultana explodes, April falls into the dark, muddy waters of the Mississippi River terrified she'll never see the light of day or the handsome riverboat gambler again. Jerek Brinkley fought hell and high water to save the northern vixen who'd won his heart with her cards tricks, only to fear Allan Pinkerton's arrival in Memphis might reveal secrets he's not ready for her to know. Based on history's greatest maritime disaster, An April to Remember, sprinkled with real facts and events, revives the Sultana, a civil war riverboat whose death toll surpassed the Titanic's, and offers a new twist on what might have happened that fateful night in 1865.

'This is WAY better than Harry Potter ' My first real review from a 10 year old neighbor.: ) Cat's Curious Capers is a much more wholesome book than Harry Potter. Author, Lauri Matisse, spent her formative years in Nebraska. Her first novel reflects those years spent in Nebraska. In 'The Music From the Water, ' the first in the Cat's Curious Capers Series, Cat, an endlessly curious 11 year old inventor moves into a "creep-a-zoid" old opera house in Elsewhere, Maine; along with her annoying little brother, Bat, "Brat" and her cool older brother, Matt. As she explores the old place, Cat hears a mystical tune which causes her to follow a mysterious boy into a secret backstage room where he disappears. Cat pulls a musty old book off the shelf called 'The Music from the Water.' It is about a boy named Jesse who lived in 1888. Cat flips through the book to see how the book ends. The last half of the book is blank At that moment, an old typewriter, antique with an attitude, types out, "Who are you?" This starts Cat's curious journey to the 'Middle of Nowhere' which definitely gives her an edge in 'Elsewhere, ' thankfully just before the school year starts Inspirational Author Lauri Matisse is a modern day renaissance woman-author, illustrator, artist, architect, musician and mother of four. Inspired by The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, combined with Nancy Drew mystery and Narnia's "Worlds Beyond," I have crafted Cat's Curious Capers to be as candid as it is uncanny. I hope to encourage young readers to be curious, courageous and creative caper solvers " Lauri is the author of two other Children's Books, Awg Dawg, 'Pet Adoption Day' and 'April in Paris. She is also the author of three Christian based Inspirational Books for Adults.
A delightful way of introducing quiet time into your child's daily life and a fun way for children to learn the necessity of quieting the mind and body for health and mental well-being."An absolutely charming book I love the illustrations, so clever and unique; and the story is a message people of all ages--big and small--can use in their lives. Houghton-Todd is thoughtful and creative, and truly understands the importance of quiet time in everyone's life. It is a time of peace, rejuvenation, and centering one's thoughts, mind, and life. I would highly recommend this book."--Carol Nylander, former Home Economics Teacher

Cozy up with a warm blanket and your favorite snuggly bear and drift away . . .
From the Trenches is a cumulation of poetry written between the ages of sixteen and twenty-two but are just as impactful today. Weaving through six phases of life, from desolation to denouement, author Lauri Wakefield brings to light the nuances of being human. This lyrical book allows for authenticity and forgiveness of the human state as we all try to make sense of our own existence.
Underneath all the stresses of modern life we suppress a vast wealth of direction and potential that is waiting to be untangled. Science is tapping into it, spiritual leaders are talking about it and the arts are expressing it. As a nation we are more tired, overworked and sicker than ever before. We know our negative patterns and what holds us back, yet we still struggle in breaking that cycle. This is where Growing The Whole Way can help. It's my unique action focused program designed to help you utilize all that your mind, body and spirit have to offer. You will learn how to learn from your past and listen to what naturally makes the most sense for you now. You will learn how to align your thoughts and feelings with meaningful action to set in motion what you really want. You will also learn how to help your mind, body and sense of meaning work together so you can access more of your own wisdom and develop more creative problem solving options. Approaching life in a holistic way can make the change you want come faster and easier. I know this because I lived it. In addition to my professional education and training I also had to push through my own personal changes. For me it was a trial and error process that was at times very difficult. Through my mistakes I learned not to fight the natural rhythm of my own growth. I learned how to see what I most need and want. I learned that my past has all the wisdom necessary to make a good decision in the present. I learned that a plan isn't a solid one if it doesn't include all parts of me. If my mind didn't work with my body and didn't honor what I considered meaningful I was lost. Every good plan needs a solid foundation. Growing The Whole Way is that foundation. Don't waste any more energy moving in the wrong direction. It's time to wake up to something new. It's time to power up from the inside. It's time to grow.
