The current trend in church leadership involves looking for a highly gifted leader who will take over, direct the future, cast a vision, and attract the faithful to a new mission or purpose. This desire for a leader to come to the rescue is eerily reminiscenet of the desire of the Israelites for a king, so they could "be like every other nation." In spite of Samuel's warnings, the people insisted, so God reluctantly gave them King Saul. That didn't go so well. While we always need good, new, and talented leaders, we also need leaders who know how and when to be good followers. Particularly in a culture of distrust, leadership must be granted, earned, and supported by those who are willing to follow. Leading begins with the counter-intuitive command: "Come, follow me." This imperative is far from easy. Many turned away from Jesus, unable to follow. However, one excellent model of "followership" stood out from the rest - the little-known disciple Andrew. In fact, Andrew is the model and paradigm for being a Lead Follower. Excellent Christian leadership is more about following Jesus than it is about learning the latest fads or tricks from business, the marketplace, or the academy. Being an excellent Christian leader involves first and foremost being an excellent and faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
The Contender: Andrew Cuomo, a Biography
A no-holds-barred biography of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Andrew Cuomo is the protagonist of an ongoing political saga that reads like a novel. In many ways, his rise, fall, and rise again is an iconic story: a young American politician of vaunting ambition, aiming for nothing less than the presidency. Building on his father's political success, a first run for governor in 2002 led to a stinging defeat, and a painful, public divorce from Kerry Kennedy, scion of another political dynasty, Cuomo had to come back from seeming political death and reinvent himself. He did so, brilliantly, by becoming New York's attorney general, and compiling a record that focused on public corruption. In winning the governorship in 2010, he promised to clean up America's most corrupt legislature. He is blunt and combative, the antithesis of the glad-handing, blow-dried senator or governor who tries to please one and all. He's also proven he can make his legislature work, alternately charming and arm-twisting his colleagues with a talent for political strategy reminiscent of President Lyndon Johnson. Political pundits tend to agree that for Cuomo, a run for the White House is not a question of whether, but when.

Science isn't about wearing thick glasses and talking down to people in a nasally whine. Science isn't about fighting tradition or advancing an agenda. Science is about riding what could have been a nuclear missile into outer space. Science is about attacking chemicals with math until you blow something up. Science is about living on a space station that spins like a top to create "artificial gravity." Science is about learning about other cultures and other people. Science is about looking at all the cool things in scifi movies and anime and asking, "how can we make that in real life?" Micheal Williams is twelve years old, and his parents have just been hired to work on a space station named after a legendary blacksmith whose forge created miracles. Micheal is going to be living in a place where dreams get hammered into reality, and all he has to do is remember one little rule: Don't. Touch. Anything.
Andrew Buist (1727-1815): Tenant Farmer of Abdie and Feuar of Markinch: By His Fifth Great Grandson
Andrew Buist, a tenant farmer from Fife, typified the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit in Scottish farming in the mid-18th-century. He was a tenant farmer of Woodhead, Cowden, Grange of Lindores and Craigmill all in the parish of Abdie. He like many other tenant farmers in lowland Scotland would make contributions to the improvements in agriculture. He would marry Isabel Thomson and they would have nine children who were all born in Abdie Parish. After the death of his wife, Isabel, Andrew relocated to Markinch where he met and later married Christian Martin also of Markinch Parish. By 1777, Buist was working as a cotter and he purchased a residence at the east end of the Markinch Parish Church. Andrew Buist would live through the height of the Scottish Enlightenment when new science was being brought to bear on Scottish agriculture and would play a part in those exciting changes. This then is the narrative of the life and times of Andrew Buist.

The Impeachment and Trial of Andrew Johnson

This book argues that although Johnson's impeachment did not succeed in ousting him, it was a justified step. It describes the critical issues and events leading up to the impeachment and then discusses the trial itself: what the grounds were, what the different sides' motivations were and why the attempt failed.
A Life of Admiral of the Fleet Andrew Cunningham
Cunningham was the best-known and most celebrated British admiral of the Second World War. He held one of the two major fleet commands between 1939 and 1942, and in 1942-43, he was Allied naval commander for the great amphibious operations in the Mediterranean. From 1943 to 1946, he was the First Sea Lord and a participant in the wartime conferences with Churchill, Stalin, Roosevelt and the US Chiefs of Staff, deliberating the global strategy for Allied victory. He also led a very active public life for almost twenty years after his retirement in 1946. Cunningham's papers are abundant for the period 1939-63 and are supplemented here by Cabinet and Admiralty records, papers of his service contemporaries and of Churchill, and by memories of his family and friends, as well as extensive US archives and private papers.

This is a short history of the Andrew Johnson years. It is written for the general reader and is meant to be entertaining as well as informative. It is written by a stand-up comedian, Mike Donovan, so expect a wise-crack now and then. Andrew Johnson comes out at least okay in Mike's book. He is not a Johnson basher. Was Andrew Johnson a drunk? Was he illiterate until he met his future wife? Was his impeachment justified? What caused him to break his friendship with General Grant? What did the terms 'redeemer' 'scalawag' and 'bloody shirt' mean? Was Reconstruction a cruel and unjust punishment? This 32,000 word book tries to answer these questions.
