Temporal Data Mining

Temporal Data Mining

Theophano Mitsa

Chapman Hall/CRC
2010
sidottu
Temporal data mining deals with the harvesting of useful information from temporal data. New initiatives in health care and business organizations have increased the importance of temporal information in data today. From basic data mining concepts to state-of-the-art advances, Temporal Data Mining covers the theory of this subject as well as its application in a variety of fields. It discusses the incorporation of temporality in databases as well as temporal data representation, similarity computation, data classification, clustering, pattern discovery, and prediction. The book also explores the use of temporal data mining in medicine and biomedical informatics, business and industrial applications, web usage mining, and spatiotemporal data mining.Along with various state-of-the-art algorithms, each chapter includes detailed references and short descriptions of relevant algorithms and techniques described in other references. In the appendices, the author explains how data mining fits the overall goal of an organization and how these data can be interpreted for the purpose of characterizing a population. She also provides programs written in the Java language that implement some of the algorithms presented in the first chapter. Check out the author's blog at http://theophanomitsa.wordpress.com/

Color your way through intricately detailed labyrinths to discover the spiritual richness within. As you color, you will reveal prayers and verses hidden in the Celtic patterns. Acclaimed artist Daniel Mitsui draws on such medieval manuscripts as the Book of Kells to create thirty original coloring pages that will help you contemplate your faith and grow closer to Christ. In his third and most ambitious adult coloring book, Mitsui creates illustrations inspired by medieval manuscripts such as the Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels. This Celtic style is characterized by intricate knot or spiral decorations and highly stylized calligraphy. Also fascinated by the tile labyrinths decorating the floors of medieval churches, Mitsui combines these two popular genres into beautifully detailed coloring pages.

Tetrad Formalism for Exact Cosmological Observables

Tetrad Formalism for Exact Cosmological Observables

Ermis Mitsou; Jaiyul Yoo

Springer Nature Switzerland AG
2020
nidottu
This book presents a novel mathematical formalism, based on the tetrad formulation of differential geometry, for describing cosmological observables exactly and conveniently. It covers all the standard observables, i.e. distances, weak lensing, number counts and cosmic microwave background, and also includes a detailed derivation of general-relativistic matrix kinetic theory. All the fully nonlinear equations are derived in detail and the mathematical content is self-contained, so that readers require only a basic knowledge of general relativity. Moreover, the authors discuss several subtle issues that are usually overlooked in the literature and, in particular, issues that distinguish this formalism from the more approximative standard practice.
Infrared Non-local Modifications of General Relativity

Infrared Non-local Modifications of General Relativity

Ermis Mitsou

Springer International Publishing AG
2016
sidottu
This thesis presents significant new results on the problem of understanding the origin of dark energy in cosmology. The work develops an original approach based on modifications of General Relativity at cosmological scales, introducing non-local effective terms that can in principle emerge from fundamental local theories. Both the phenomenological consequences and theoretical aspects of the proposal are developed in depth. The thesis also contains significant new material compared to that published by the author in scientific journals.

Greece in Early English Travel Writing, 1596–1682

Efterpi Mitsi

sidottu
This book examines the letters, diaries, and published accounts of English and Scottish travelers to Greece in the seventeenth century, a time of growing interest in ancient texts and the Ottoman Empire. Through these early encounters, this book analyzes the travelers’ construction of Greece in the early modern Mediterranean world and shows how travel became a means of collecting and disseminating knowledge about ancient sites. Focusing on the mobility and exchange of people, artifacts, texts, and opinions between the two countries, it argues that the presence of Britons in Greece and of Greeks in England aroused interest not only in Hellenic antiquity, but also in Greece’s contemporary geopolitical role. Exploring myth, perception, and trope with clarity and precision, this book offers new insight into the connections between Greece, the Ottoman Empire, and the West.
