sidottu
The main objective of this book is to provide an innovative set of concepts and tools regarding company management, internal and external stakeholders and social responsibilities, reflecting the necessities and opportunities generated by the digital transformation, the transition to a knowledge-based economy, and the COVID-19 crisis. The book, based on a holistic vision and contextual approach of business, contributes to the development of company management and stakeholder and social responsibility theories and practices, being structured in 12 chapters. The original company management vision, approaches, and tools are based on three pillars: a new "manager–relevant stakeholder" rather than "manager–subordinate" managerial paradigm; a new type of company social responsibility rather than corporate social responsibility; and a new concept of company-relevant stakeholder rather than that of salient stakeholders. The book contains two innovative managerial mechanisms: the managerial synapse and company-relevant stakeholders-based management system able to help companies and stakeholders face successfully the challenges of digital transformation and the COVID-19 crisis and to generate greater organization functionality and performance. The book will be of interest to company managers and management specialists, management academics, consultants and researchers, and MBA students interested in a style of management with social responsibility at the forefront.

Moral Dilemmas in Real Life

Moral Dilemmas in Real Life

Moral Dilemmas in Real Life purports to supply ways of thinking of, perhaps even dealing with, the ins and outs of ethical argument. The world today presents both individuals and communities with situations, which demand moral and ethical deliberations. From the more general issues of universal globalization to the very specific problems of every-day existence encountered by active agents, contemporary life is replete with moral and ethical conundrums. Any thinking person is required, so it seems, to be concerned, involved, or – at the very least – conversant with these issues and this book supplies the wherewithal needed. Applied ethics is that intellectual locale where theory meets praxis. Moral Dilemmas in Real Life is designed to make that meeting point explicit, by presenting a series of issues in well-grounded philosophical formulations. The book begins with the general relation between the individual and society – instilling ethical tension, and even clashes, between the private and the public in our discourse. Going on, from general to specific, it gradually narrows the ethical playing field to touch on medical ethics, the family, and the practice of punishment. In all cases, the book addresses both consensual and conventional social institutions and distortions thereof.
Systematic Design of Sigma-Delta Analog-to-Digital Converters

Systematic Design of Sigma-Delta Analog-to-Digital Converters

Ovidiu Bajdechi; Johan Huijsing

Springer-Verlag New York Inc.
2004

Systematic Design of Sigma-Delta Analog-to-Digital Converters describes the issues related to the sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) design in a systematic manner: from the top level of abstraction represented by the filters defining signal and noise transfer functions (STF, NTF), passing through the architecture level where topology-related performance is calculated and simulated, and finally down to parameters of circuit elements like resistors, capacitors, and amplifier transconductances used in individual integrators. The systematic approach allows the evaluation of different loop filters (order, aggressiveness, discrete-time or continuous-time implementation) with quantizers varying in resolution. Topologies explored range from simple single loops to multiple cascaded loops with complex structures including more feedbacks and feedforwards. For differential circuits, with switched-capacitor integrators for discrete-time (DT) loop filters and active-RC for continuous-time (CT) ones, the passive integrator components are calculated and the power consumption is estimated, based on top-level requirements like harmonic distortion and noise budget. This unified, systematic approach to choosing the best sigma-delta ADC implementation for a given design target yields an interesting solution for a high-resolution, broadband (DSL-like) ADC operated at low oversampling ratio, which is detailed down to transistor-level schematics. The target audience of Systematic Design of Sigma-Delta Analog-to-Digital Converters are engineers designing sigma-delta ADCs and/or switched-capacitor and continuous-time filters, both beginners and experienced. It is also intended for students/academics involved in sigma-delta and analog CAD research.
Asymptotics and Borel Summability

Asymptotics and Borel Summability

Incorporating substantial developments from the last thirty years into one resource, Asymptotics and Borel Summability provides a self-contained introduction to asymptotic analysis with special emphasis on topics not covered in traditional asymptotics books. The author explains basic ideas, concepts, and methods of generalized Borel summability, transseries, and exponential asymptotics. He provides complete mathematical rigor while supplementing it with heuristic material and examples, so that some proofs may be omitted by applications-oriented readers. To give a sense of how new methods are used in a systematic way, the book analyzes in detail general nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) near a generic irregular singular point. It enables readers to master basic techniques, supplying a firm foundation for further study at more advanced levels. The book also examines difference equations, partial differential equations (PDEs), and other types of problems.Chronicling the progress made in recent decades, this book shows how Borel summability can recover exact solutions from formal expansions, analyze singular behavior, and vastly improve accuracy in asymptotic approximations.

This book features challenging problems of classical analysis that invite the reader to explore a host of strategies and tools used for solving problems of modern topics in real analysis. This volume offers an unusual collection of problems — many of them original — specializing in three topics of mathematical analysis: limits, series, and fractional part integrals. The work is divided into three parts, each containing a chapter dealing with a particular problem type as well as a very short section of hints to select problems. The first chapter collects problems on limits of special sequences and Riemann integrals; the second chapter focuses on the calculation of fractional part integrals with a special section called ‘Quickies’ which contains problems that have had unexpected succinct solutions. The final chapter offers the reader an assortment of problems with a flavor towards the computational aspects of infinite series and special products, many of which are new to the literature. Each chapter contains a section of difficult problems which are motivated by other problems in the book. These ‘Open Problems’ may be considered research projects for students who are studying advanced calculus, and which are intended to stimulate creativity and the discovery of new and original methods for proving known results and establishing new ones. This stimulating collection of problems is intended for undergraduate students with a strong background in analysis; graduate students in mathematics, physics, and engineering; researchers; and anyone who works on topics at the crossroad between pure and applied mathematics. Moreover, the level of problems is appropriate for students involved in the Putnam competition and other high level mathematical contests.

In The News: Business Insider - "Hedge fund researcher is working on a higher dimensional geometric model of the stock market" International Business Times - "How do you picture the stock market: a bunch of guys yelling at computer screens on Wall Street? A long list of figures in the paper? Or, perhaps, an ever-shifting, higher dimensional jewel? The latter vision is that of Ovidiu Racorean... " The large public is, for the first time, invited to take a closer look through the "keyhole" of a hedge fund "next generation research laboratory" door. The image reader will discover is astonishing; no exaggeration. From simple to complex, the book presents familiar financial concepts like stocks, market index (Dow Jones Industrial Average), algorithmic trading, to name just a few, in a manner that have never been experienced before. The reader is taken to a journey throughout a financial mathematics world that it seems detached from the 22nd century science. Part of a so called "underground quant researchers group", the author disclose throughout the pages of the book a picture of how quantum computer generation of quants will impact the financial markets in the near future, giving the reader a hint of how far research goes in mathematical finance. ARE WE PREPARED FOR THE QUANTUM COMPUTER TRADING AND INVESTING?
