A detailed examination of the life and career of Cardinal Bendinello Sauli - notorious for his involvement in a plot to murder the Pope. Cardinal Bendinello Sauli died in disgrace in 1518, implicated, rightly or wrongly, in a conspiracy to assassinate the then Pope, Leo X. This book, based on extensive archival research in Genoa and Rome, traces Sauli's rise and fall, setting one man's life and career against a background of political turmoil and intrigue, and offering new perspectives on the patronal links which bound pope, cardinals and their family and courtiers so closely together. It plots his elevation to ecclesiastical eminence through the efforts of his family who were financiers to the pope; and it examines his apogee as cardinal-patron both of humanists and of some of the leading artists of his day such asSebastiano del Piombo and Raphael. The plot to murder the pope is also studied in depth; the author examines the surviving evidence relating to the plot and reveals new archival material which supports its existence in the eyes of the law and Sauli's involvement in it. In addition, she explores Sauli's role as a man of the Church and his administration of his benefices. HELEN HYDE is an independent scholar who studied at the universities of Lancaster and London. Her previous publications include articles on the Sauli family and early sixteenth-century Genoa.

I have had a long and extremely interesting career full of twists and turns. At eighteen years of age, I played keyboards for two blues bands on Merseyside. I then became employed in the travel business for fifteen years until I was made redundant. My next career move was to become a videographer, which continued for thirty years. As a sideline, for a few years I had small roles on TV and in film, including 'Scandal' in 1989. Later in life I began writing poetry and articles for UK and US magazines and more recently wrote three songs with Frankie Collins from the soul/funk band Kokomo, who are still going strong. However, my greatest achievement is to complete this book after so many years of writing it. After going to Thailand in 1998, it tells the story of how I became involved in the welfare of dogs on the beaches of Koh Samui, in particular one we named Gypsy. It details our adventures over two consecutive holidays, including heart-warming moments as well as seriously dramatic events. Attempting to bring her to England proved to be considerably traumatic with many problems and disappointments, but we overcame those and happily homed her in Bollington for thirteen years. Her life with us is well documented in the book, as are our further visits to Koh Samui to work at the Dog Rescue Centre as volunteers.

The Performing Dignity Project was initiated to recognize the work that happens in smaller cabarets around the world, starting in Pattaya, Thailand. This is the second work in the series and looks at the artists of Koh Samui, Thailand. Currently, there are various opportunities to see members of the transgender community perform on the island and this work looks at two cabaret bars: Starz Cabaret and The Cabaret in Chaweng, Koh Samui. These performance artists were photographed during various live performances, and this work aims to express the energy, passion and creative work that the performers share as artists. Celebrate life through those that share their passion with us, the audience.
