Jack Wilson, by every accounts an average man, described by witnesses as "pleasant looking," is one of the countries' top FBI agents. He shares his life with his girlfriend, Shannon, a professional model and their passion for biking, and their son, Tommy who is headed for a career in pro-baseball. Jack is juggling a number of cases at the same time and his reputation is at stake when women are being abducted and a man labeled "the mystery stud" makes the fantasies of some young women come true and then disappears. Aside from solving these cases, there is only one other thing keeping Jack from being a completely happy man and that is his recurring dreams and nightmares about the disappearance of his brother, Louis.
"August in a Haunted House" is not your usual type of ghost story. Far from it, in fact. This is a story more about the living than the dead, although a ghost certainly does enter into the tale on more than one occasion ... such as breathing down the back necks of visitors to the house, blowing up Augie''s favorite radio, turning his new radio onto weird stations and playing strange music, and even helping to decorate the family''s Christmas tree for 1950. So, what is it like to live in a haunted house? What is it like to be told your house has a treasure buried somewhere in the basement? Those two questions provide a multitude of mysterious adventures for Augie Kruger, his wife, Ruthie, and their daughter, Amelia, as well as for the rest of the Kruger clan, whom readers of the series of August novels have grown to know. Of course, Augie and his older cousin, Willie, have to find that buried treasure in the basement of Augie''s home. Willie already has his heart set on buying himself a new Cadillac with his share of the treasure. But, there are complications. A neighbor of Augie''s, by the name of Archie Crane, also has his eyes on the house and its treasure and will do anything to get possession of the house, including taking Augie and his ghost to court. A ghost in court? That''s a case Augie and his attorney, sly, old Lucas Spivey, must win in order for Augie to keep his home and continue digging for the buried treasure. When Sheriff Timble delivers the summons for Augie to appear in court, he tells Augie to make sure his ghost wears a clean, white sheet because Judge Strong is a stickler for neatness. You''ll always find humor in Frey''s novels. It proves to be the most unusual lawsuit ever to be heard by a jury in Jackson Junction. A case that has several twists and turns before coming to a surprise ending. But, the court case''s surprise ending can''t compare to the surprise ending when Augie and Willie

August Roads tells two stories of struggle and redemption set against the remote wilds of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and along the historical grace of the Natchez Trace ParkwayIn Anwar, Gillam Wheaton Taylor-Wheat to his friends-is an urban professional who becomes embroiled in the serpentine maneuverings of politics in Washington D.C. Struggling to reconcile success with happiness, he becomes obsessed with the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge during the 2000 presidential campaigns of Al Gore and George W. Bush. He is lured north, toward a place so far outside of his experience that "he couldn't even visualize it." His journey into the unknown reveals fundamental truths, but leaves him balanced precariously between life and death. In The Trace, Charles Bear Winston is in a race against time to resolve the pain and tragedy of his life. As his body fails him, he journeys with his aging mother along the Natchez Trace Parkway, an historic route that winds gracefully for almost 450 miles from the cypress swamps of Mississippi to the forested hills of Tennessee, passing the birth places of Elvis Presley and Oprah Winfrey as well as ancient Indian mounds and Civil War battle sites. He reconnects with the forests and the fields, the history and the wildlife, as he urgently searches for the meaning of home. But does he have enough time?Kirk Ward Robinson has been to the places he describes in August Roads. He has been startled and terrified by a grizzly bear in the bush, smelled its fetid breath up close. He has wandered through the ice fogs of the northern latitudes, has gazed down upon the vast splendor of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from a high mountain pass, and has bicycled the length of the Natchez Trace Parkway in both directions, almost 900 miles through a narrow corridor of natural and human history. His books, articles and stories read with the authenticity of true experience, revealing the essential importance of wild and special places in America.
