This book is the first written since McLean returned to England in 2022, & follows a series of books of love poetry. As such, it shows an attempt to reorient to a life that is meaningful because of earth, nature, beast, & goddess, without any focus for the sexuality with which the flesh, as such, is instinct, & without any sense of social connection. The intensity differs thereby in its focus, though some themes are retained. These are poems about living on, & trusting in the goddess to give the fire & the words one needs to live & feel.

The technical details of British warships were recorded in a set of plans produced by the builders on completion of every ship. Known as the 'as fitted' general arrangements, these drawings represented the exact appearance and fitting of the ship as it entered service. Intended to provide a permanent reference for the Admiralty and the dockyards, these highly detailed plans were drawn with exquisite skill in multi-coloured inks and washes that represent the acme of the draughtsman's art. Today they form part of the incomparable collection of the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, which is using the latest scanning technology to make digital copies of the highest quality. This book is one of a series based entirely on these draughts which depict famous warships in an unprecedented degree of detail-complete sets in full colour, with many close-ups and enlargements that make every aspect clear and comprehensible. Extensive captions point the reader to important features to be found in the plans, and an introduction covers the background to the design. HMS _Victorious_ was a ship with two almost separate incarnations-as built in 1941 she was one of a new type of armoured carrier which saw strenuous wartime service; post-war the ship underwent a massive reconstruction lasting nearly eight years that saw her recommission in1958 as one of the best equipped carriers in the world, ready for another decade of duty. Both these phases of the ship's life are fully documented, which allows this novel form of anatomy to cover two generations of carrier design.

On 9 May 1912 the first airplane take-off from a ship was made from the deck of the HMS Hibernia. In July 1918, seven Sopwith Camels launched from the converted battlecruiser HMS Furious damaged the German airbase at Tønder and destroyed two zeppelins. The age of the carrier was born. In the interwar years the Lexington, Akagi and Courageous – class carriers were developed, but it was only during World War II that the aircraft carrier finally came into its own. Fleet carriers carrying 30–40 aircraft allowed the Japanese and US navies to project air power across the vast Pacific Ocean, with the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor presaging a new kind of warfare. With the sinking of hundreds of ships during World War II, including the German battleship Bismarck in 1941, by the end of the war carriers ruled the waves and the era of the battleship had passed. Aircraft Carriers features 52 of the most significant flat tops and amphibious assault ships built since the 1920s until the present day, from the USS Yorktown, which survived direct hits during the battle of Midway (1942), through the Falklands War veteran HMS Invincible, to the mighty Nimitz class, the core of the US Navy’s carrier battle groups today. Also included are significant amphibious assault ships, such as the USS Tarawa and French Mistral. Each entry includes a brief description of the ship’s development and history, a colour profile view or cutaway, key features and specifications. Packed with more than 200 artworks and photographs, Aircraft Carriers is a colourful guide for the naval warfare enthusiast.

The Universal Carrier was a fast, lightly armed vehicle developed by the British Army to carry infantry across ground defended by small-arms fire; specifically the Bren light machine gun, hence the name 'Bren Gun Carrier'. This name would stick with the Universal Carrier and all of its future variants. This book details the Carrier, which was employed in a number of roles including carrying ammunition, and towing anti-aircraft guns and trailers. All Allies used the Universal Carrier extensively during practically every World War II campaign. By the war's end, the Universal Carrier had proved itself to be an invaluable and successful cross-country vehicle that was both agile and fast for its time.

"In my life and ministry in Iraq, nothing is more important to me than the immediacy of the presence of God. Without His presence we are truly lost. Here David provides an all-important compass for us to find and abide in The Pres-ence. I highly recommend it." CANON ANDREW WHITE In Presence Carriers, David Shearman presents a compelling argument that demonstrates how dwelling in God's pres-ence can, and should, be integral to every aspect of our lives.Taking exam-ples from the journeys of various biblical characters, and sharing his own personal journey, he shows how committed God is to shaping each of our lives by His pres-ence. No event or circumstance is wasted in His diligence to form Christ in us. We will, however, need to be open to embrace change as a constant factor in our lives.Written in two parts, the first half of this book teaches the importance of finding alignment with God's presence. The second half explores multiple aspects of God's presence in the light of Him preparing us for our desti-ny. About the author: DAVID SHEARMAN has been the Senior Minister of the Christian Centre since 1977 - a thriving, city church in the heart of Nottingham. As well as his commitment to the Christian Centre, Da-vid maintains a busy schedule of preaching and teaching around the world. He is recognised for his strong apostolic and prophetic anointing which sharpens, shapes and impacts leaders around the globe.

International Air Carrier Liability brings together essential treaties and airline-to-airline agreements on air carrier liability, safety and security, and supplements these with expert commentary and analysis. The examination considers the general regulatory framework of international civil aviation (including the Chicago Convention and related documents) and how the liability regime fits within that framework. The book is divided into three parts: dealing in turn with liability, safety and security, and civil aviation regulation. Part I, for example, provides comment and analysis of the international air-carrier liability regime, how the main liability conventions operate, and the application of these conventions to international carriage by air (passengers, baggage and cargo). Given its subject matter and the universal state party participation in these conventions, this book has truly global application.David Hodgkinson and Rebecca Johnston aim to provide a reference aid for legal practitioners (at law firms, airlines, manufacturers, aviation-related corporations and government departments and agencies), as well as academics, students (undergraduate and post graduate) and government officials regarding treaties, domestic laws and documents concerned with these vital legal issues.

A fascinating exploration of a little-known subject--the government-in-exile of Poland which existed in London for over 50 years. In the wake of the German and Soviet invasions in September 1939, the Republic of Poland’s government re-established itself abroad, first in France, then in the United Kingdom, where it functioned until the fall of communism in Poland. It never surrendered to the Germans, nor did it accept the communist government imposed by the Soviet Union. Despite diplomatic and financial pressures, the exiles maintained a government consisting of a president, prime minister, council of ministers, national council, judiciary, and treasury, and they regularly conducted elections. Throughout its existence it remained a constant reminder of Poland’s plight during and after the war. This book provides an English language history of Poland’s Government-in-Exile from its creation in 1939 through the dissolution of the last of its bodies in 1991, focusing on its relations with wartime allies, its loss of recognition in 1945, its postwar mission, relevance, and international reach, and its legacy in post-communist Poland. It explores internal conflicts and divisions in the exile community, the Government-in-Exile’s advocacy for Poland throughout the Cold War, and its extensive support for the opposition in Poland.

The British Carrier Strike Fleet

The British Carrier Strike Fleet

In 1945 the most powerful fleet in the Royal Navy's history was centred on nine aircraft carriers. This book charts the post-war fortunes of this potent strike force; its decline in the face of diminishing resources, its final fall at the hands of uncomprehending politicians, and its recent resurrection in the form of the _Queen Elizabeth_ class carriers, the largest ships ever built for the Royal Navy. After 1945 'experts' prophesied that nuclear weapons would make conventional forces obsolete but British carrier-borne aircraft were almost continuously employed in numerous conflicts as far apart as Korea, Egypt, the Persian Gulf, the South Atlantic, East Africa and the Far East, often giving successive British Governments options when no others were available. In the process the Royal Navy invented many of the techniques and devices crucial to modern carrier operations angled decks, steam catapults and deck-landing aids while also pioneering novel forms of warfare like helicopter-borne assault, and tactics for countering such modern plagues as insurgency and terrorism. This book combines narratives of these operations with a clear analysis of the strategic and political background, benefiting from the author's personal experience of both carrier flying and the workings of Whitehall. This new paperback edition will be welcomed by historians and enthusiasts and has now particular significance as Britain once again embraces carrier aviation.
