Offers the first book length contribution to Doris Wishman Covers Wishman's vast filmography inclusive of her less discussed later films, hardcore films and nudist films Situates Wishman within larger contexts and movements in American film history including women's filmmaking, avant-garde and experimental cinema and genre film Considers the cultural, historical, and industrial significance of Wishman with focuses on gender studies, genre studies, film narrative, feminist history, queer history and adult film history Producer, distributor, and director Doris Wishman (1912 2002) was a pioneering woman in the film industry, leaving a body of work almost 30 films strong. Largely overlooked by critical and cultural analysis, Wishman worked in the normatively neglected film genre of sexploitation and adult film, but works like Hideout in the Sun (1960), Bad Girls Go To Hell (1965), Double Agent 73 (1974) and Each Time I Kill (2007) demonstrate an interest in complicated, ideological and often troubling social performances of the contemporary human condition. ReFocus: The Films of Doris Wishman positions Wishman as a significant and overlooked force in American independent film, with an impact on how we currently understand the categories of cult, exploitation, horror, experimental and avant-garde cinema.

Their paintings and design work, including posters, murals and luxury ocean liners, and costume designs for stage and film, are today emblematic of that period in British art.

KINSHIP REIMAGINED: FAMILY IN DORIS LESSING’S FICTION
This book focuses on Doris Lessing’s social and political reappraisal of the family. It looks at how her fiction both critiques traditional patriarchal family structures and explores alternative and non-normative configurations of family. The continuation of traditional ideas about family suggests that Lessing’s fiction remains meaningful and relevant today. Kinship Reimagined: Family in Doris Lessing’s Fiction is a thoroughly researched, original and interesting contribution to both the study of Doris Lessing’s work and the study of the family, as it is represented in twentieth-century fiction. Senturk’s argument – that Lessing’s work develops from a critique of the family towards a resignification of it – is clearly argued, well structured, and engaging to read. Susan Watkins, Professor in Cultural Studies and Humanities, Leeds Beckett University, UK Selcuk Senturk’s monograph is a valuable contribution to the study of one of the twentieth century’s most important authors. Senturk analyzes with great insight the ways that Doris Lessing first resisted, then reconsidered, and finally reimagined family roles and kinship structures, as well as gender norms, during her prolific career. In Senturk’s work, the family emerges as not just a theme in Lessing’s writings but a key critical concept for understanding their import. Drawing expertly on such current critical discourses as feminism and eco-criticism, Senturk makes clear the enduring relevance of Lessing’s novels, showing how they continue to speak to the urgent problems of our time. Dr Cornelius Collins, Co-editor in Chief in Doris Lessing Studies, Fordham University, USA. Selcuk Senturk provides informed, systematic interpretation of the Western family across the corpus of Lessing’s novels. This insightful, sustained analysis reaches original and revealing conclusions, especially concerning lesser studied works, such as Mara and Dann and The Sweetest Dream. Sandra Singer, Associate Professor in the Department of English and Theatre Studies, University of Guelph, CA
Comparison of Doris Lessing's 'to Room 19' and Fay Weldon's 'Weekend'
Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Anglistik - Literatur, Note: 2,5, Universit t Rostock (Institut f r Anglistik), 4 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The short stories "To Room 19" by Doris Lessing and "Weekend" by Fay Weldon present two dissimilar woman who have problems to handle their lives in their families. As the quotation above shows, they have to take over a lot of different roles. This is sometimes very hard and demands a lot from the women. In my research paper I analyse what the problems in these two families are and how they have arisen. Moreover I have a detailed look at the attempts the characters make in both stories to solve these problems. Of course I also take into my analysis some theoretical questions of narrative fiction. An extensive comparison of the results I have made in both stories makes up the end of my paper.
