A Dissertation on the Three Parts of King Henry VI. Tending to Shew That Those Plays Were not Written Originally by Shakspeare. By Edmond Malone, Esq
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.Western literary study flows out of eighteenth-century works by Alexander Pope, Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Frances Burney, Denis Diderot, Johann Gottfried Herder, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and others. Experience the birth of the modern novel, or compare the development of language using dictionaries and grammar discourses. ++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. This book is about two brothers, Edmond Davenport and Absolum Davenport, who brought their families from Pitt County, North Carolina to Wilson County, Tennessee about 1810-1814. Their great grandfather was Richard Davenport whose descendants are the Albemarle Davenports. He was born in 1642 and lived from about 1680 to his death about 1714 on the north shore of the Albemarle Sound. Their grandfather was Isaac Davenport who moved to the south side of the Albemarle Sound to an area that became a part of Tyrrell County in 1729. Their father was George Davenport, who moved to Hyde County, and served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. When Edmond and Absolum moved to Wilson County, Tennessee, they settled in the Sanders Fork area that became a part of Cannon County in 1838. Absolum served in the army during the War of 1812. About 1835 Edmond and two of his sons moved to the Barren Fork area of Warren County. The descendants of both Edmond and Absolum increased rapidly and soon began moving out of the area. Today they are in nearly all, if not all, of the 50 states of the United States and also in several foreign countries.

Il s' teindra l' ge de 58 ans, laissant pour les siens et ses intimes le souvenir d'un homme qui aimait la vie, et par-dessus tout, l' l vation que procurent la Peinture, l'Op ra et les Lettres. Edmond Halley’s Reconstruction of the Lost Book of Apollonius’s Conics
Apollonius’s Conics was one of the greatest works of advanced mathematics in antiquity. The work comprised eight books, of which four have come down to us in their original Greek and three in Arabic. By the time the Arabic translations were produced, the eighth book had already been lost. In 1710, Edmond Halley, then Savilian Professor of Geometry at Oxford, produced an edition of the Greek text of the Conics of Books I-IV, a translation into Latin from the Arabic versions of Books V-VII, and a reconstruction of Book VIII. The present work provides the first complete English translation of Halley’s reconstruction of Book VIII with supplementary notes on the text. It also contains 1) an introduction discussing aspects of Apollonius’s Conics 2) an investigation of Edmond Halley's understanding of the nature of his venture into ancient mathematics, and 3) an appendices giving a brief account of Apollonius’s approach to conic sections and his mathematical techniques. This book will be of interest to students and researchers interested in the history of ancient Greek mathematics and mathematics in the early modern period.

One of the most versatile actors of his generation, Edmond O'Brien made a series of iconic noir films. From a man reporting his own murder in D.O.A. (1949) to the conflicted title character in The Bigamist (1953), he portrayed the confusion of the postwar Everyman. His memorable roles spanned genres from Shakespeare to westerns and comedies--he also turned his hand to directing. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as the harassed press agent Oscar Muldoon in Joseph Mankiewicz's bitter Cinderella fable The Barefoot Contessa (1954). This first in-depth study of O'Brien charts his life and career from Broadway to Hollywood and to the rise of television, revealing a devoted family man dedicated to his craft.
