Holy Ghost Town: True stories of the Holy Spirit changing lives behind bars
Imagine being in prison. Prison to your thoughts and emotions. Captive to your actions. Your freedom has been lost emotionally, spiritually, and maybe even physically. It can happen to all of us. Various small moments in our lives converge in a collision that create the moments to come. Some of those decisions land us in a position where we have lost more than just physical freedom. We become lost to ourselves. We are all broken vessels, physical beings living in a supernatural world dealing with earthly reactions to spiritual influences. Holy Ghost Town is the story of one woman's journey to bring Holy Spirit behind bars at a state penitentiary for 40 hours over 3 1/2 days, in order to set the captives free. Prisons cells do not create prisoners. Emotional and spiritual captivity does. When the Holy Spirit is released, freedom begins, regardless of where you are. She listened to the hearts and wounds of offenders of every level. Each time, the Holy Spirit exposed the wounds and pain that led them to their spiritual captivity and revealed the way for them to become free within the walls. This is their story.

Meet the real Jesus. Not the sanitized Jesus that shows up at church on Sundays with the proper songs and the perfect atmosphere. This is the Jesus that goes outside the church doors, into the wild nature of our lives and messy interactions of His chosen children. The Jesus that comes to you as your advocate against the enemy, even when you don't have the understanding or strength to ask Him for help. The Jesus that shows up when everyone else turns away or ignores your need. The Jesus that loves you through your shame and pain. Jesus as He was when He was on this earth. Raw and real...

Serious stock-taking is in progress now among practitioners of whathas been called Sovietology, meaning studies of the Union of SovietSocialist Republics. The reason is that the field for the most part hadnot been expecting what happened in 1991: The USSR collapsed andwent out of existence as a unified state system governing a sixth ofthe world's territory, having allowed its East European empire tofree itself from Soviet dominance somewhat earlier. It might be said in defense of Sovietology that, by the beginningof the 1980s, it understood that economic and political crises werebrewing in the Soviet Union and its outer empire. But the field asa whole failed to grasp the full depth of the systemic crisis in SovietRussia and the destructive or self-destructive potentialities inherentin it. As the editors of this valuable volume write in the Introduction:"Sovietology was not prepared for perestroika and postcommunism."

A Journey in the Seaboard Slave States

Frederick Law Olmsted; Jr Olmsted; William P. Trent

pokkari
Frederick Law Olmsted (1822–1903) was a journalist and landscape designer who is regarded as the founder of American landscape architecture: his most famous achievement was Central Park in New York, of which he became the superintendent in 1857, but he also worked on the design of parks in many other burgeoning American cities, and was called by Charles Eliot Norton 'the greatest artist that America has yet produced'. His A Journey in the Seaboard Slave States was originally published in 1856, and arose from journeys in the south which Olmsted, a passionate abolitionist, had undertaken in 1853–4. This edition was published in two volumes in 1904, with the addition of a biographical sketch by his son and an introduction by William P. Trent. It abounds in fascinating and witty descriptions of Olmsted's encounters and experiences in a society which was on the verge of overwhelming change.

This invaluable book provides an elementary description of supersymmetric quantum mechanics which complements the traditional coverage found in the existing quantum mechanics textbooks. It gives physicists a fresh outlook and new ways of handling quantum-mechanical problems, and also leads to improved approximation techniques for dealing with potentials of interest in all branches of physics. The algebraic approach to obtaining eigenstates is elegant and important, and all physicists should become familiar with this. The book has been written in such a way that it can be easily appreciated by students in advanced undergraduate quantum mechanics courses. Problems have been given at the end of each chapter, along with complete solutions to all the problems. The text also includes material of interest in current research not usually discussed in traditional courses on quantum mechanics, such as the connection between exact solutions to classical soliton problems and isospectral quantum Hamiltonians, and the relation to the inverse scattering problem.
