Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and the Question of Socialism in India
This book offers a reading of Bhimrao Ambedkar’s engagement with the idea and practice of socialism in India by linking it to his lifelong political and philosophical concerns: the annihilation of the caste system, untouchability and the moral and philosophical systems that justify either. Rather than view his ideas through a socialist lens, the author suggests that it is important to measure the validity of socialist thought and practice in the Indian context, through his critique of the social totality. The book argues its case by presenting a broad and connected overview of his thought world and the global and local influences that shaped it. The themes that are taken up for discussion include: his understanding of the colonial rule and the colonial state; history and progress; nationalism and the questions he posed the socialists; his radical critique of the caste system and Brahmancal philosophies, and his unusual interpretation of Buddhism.

In the context of national development, womens' participation in crop oriented activities is of crucial importance. According to census figures, 74.00 per cent of the entire female working forces are engaged in agricultural operations. The task of improving the conditions of farm women acquainting them with new knowledge and bringing about technological changes were tremendous. Under this principle, Krishi Vigyan Kendras were established as an intermediary for disseminating the new findings to the farming community through Farm Science Clubs. FSCs were organised exclusively for farmer and farm women. So far, no study was made on the participation, adoption and communication behaviour of women FSC members. Hence, a comprehensive study was taken up in this line.

Nanoscience offers educators the possibility to bring into the classroom the concept of "interdisciplinary". we have numerous examples of nanoscience in Nature, as well as in historic artefacts. The educator has therefore an opportunity to truly show how nanoscience integrates not only scientific disciplines (chemistry, physics, biology etc.), but also humanistic ones. Some practical ideas on how to exploit this opportunity are given at the end of this Module in end of this teachers training package in a document titled "Nanoscience and nanotechnology in the classroom".The application of nanoscience to "practical" devices is called nanotechnologies. Nanotechnologies are based on the manipulation, control and integration of atoms and molecules to form materials, structures, components, devices and systems at the nanoscale. Nanotechnologies are the application of nanoscience especially to industrial and commercial objectives.

Despite the extensive salt iodization programme implementation, theprevalence of goiter has not reduced much. The most frequent cause of hypothyroidism and goiter in iodine sufficient areas is Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). This study records the clinical presentation, biochemical status, ultrasonographic picture and histomorphological appearance of this disease in a coastal endemic zone for goiter.Clinical, biochemical & ultrasound compliments the diagnosis with its characteristic features but histomorphology is confirmatory. Association of HT with malignancy requires a close follow up of these patients. Also, we suggest that in an endemic zone for goiter, all women of the child bearing age should be screened for HT.
