Jorinde Voigt

sidottu
In her drawings Jorinde Voigt (*1977 in Frankfurt am Main) develops a kind of semantic code that seems extremely subjective and individual, yet is subjected to strict rules and systems. In the process her notations create visual spaces that employ an artistic, philosophical procedure to unfold the world in its fundamental parameters, such as distance, speed, direction, frequency, pop charts, genres, and much more, while at the same time revealing the simultaneity of all these things. This volume features drawings from the 32-part cycle, Ludwig van Beethoven, Sonatas 1-32, in which the artist attempts to use music as the theme without illustrating or interpreting it. Here, according to Voigt, the greatest challenge was “to develop a method of notation capable of extracting the emotional range that is inscribed in Beethoven’s music.”
Jorinde Voigt (Bilingual edition)
Jorinde Voigt’s new body of work On Reality, created in 2021 and 2022, continues the artist’s investigation of using sculptural elements to expand on the medium of drawing. Using coloured paper, Voigt combines her visual vocabulary of drawing, writing and numbering with new techniques: By layering cut out shapes, and dispensing with any trace of drawing by replacing it with the cut of the scalpel, she creates compositions on the threshold between collage and assemblage. By introducing a third dimension to her conceptual works on paper Voigt finds a new way to further develop her notational systems of grids, line networks, and patterns that translate parameters such as distance, speed, or frequency into visual compositions. Featured are also sketch-like works that spontaneously transfer situational experiences into graphic gestures.
Jörg Friedrch - pfp architekten: Theaters
Bilingual edition (English/German) / Zweisprachige Ausgabe (deutsch/englisch) Theater buildings are, and always have been, a characteristic feature of the European city. It is they, above all else, which provide impulses for the regeneration of the city centres and the redevelopment whole urban areas; they are indispensible identification points of urban communities. In that sense, good theater architecture is also shaping the future of our cities.Apart from demonstrating great competency in planning and building well-functioning cultural spaces through their designs and inventions around theater architecture, pfp architekten from Hamburg also show great sensitivity to urban space. Numerous photos and plans make their designs tangible to the last detail; essays by Dirk Baecker and Martina Löw extend this architectural perspective into the sociological significance of theater and theater buildings. Their main users—theater managers—also have a say, reporting on their experiences of “their” new theaters. This book proves: theater is future—an insight that is perhaps more important than ever today, considering pan-European cuts in culture budgets.
Jörg Friedrich Pfp Architekturen
Over the past four decades, Jörg Friedrich and his prominent Hamburg architecture firm pfp architekten have planned and implemented a wide range of public and private architectural projects intended for a variety of purposes. pfp architekten endeavour to minimise the architectonic object in the context of the urban fabric. They are interested in transforming architecture and the city to create a relaxed future, consistently deploying the ideals of classical modernism. Their constructed spaces are more than functional and aesthetic shapes they are an architecture of encounters. They set up the building within the city as a social stratum. This book uses a large number of examples to illustrate the distinctive thinking and working processes of Jörg Friedrich and his team. It documents design principles and concept development as seen in sketches, models, and impressive photographs, right up until the completion of the building.
