Since the publication of the third edition in 1997, the World Health Organization (WHO) has printed two major volumes concerning tumours of the thymus, and the authors of this volume collaborated on these books. In the last 10 years, little progress has been made in the study of tumours of the thymus, although a few new subtypes have been reported.The most significant change was the subtyping by the WHO of tumours of the thymus that do not cause constitutional changes. The present volume has adopted the WHO system of classification. For pathologists who are not as familiar with the WHO system, the authors clearly explain and illustrate both the morphologic and histogenetic classification systems that are its bases. Due to the changes in nomenclature, the chapter on thymic epithelial tumors has been considerably revised, although the main diagnostic terms are presented along with the previous conventional morphologic and histogenetic terms. Newly-recognised tumour entities, new cytologic and genetic findings, and recent references have been added, and the tables have been revised to reflect new data on survival, staging, and classification.This volume will be an authoritative reference on mediastinal tumours for years to come.

This 1977 book reports on an experimental program that was designed to discover whether a summer of intensive academic work and recreation on a college campus could significantly improve the educational performance of economically disadvantaged thirteen-year-old children. For three successive summers, sixty-five experimental participants and sixty-five control participants were selected randomly from schools in two large cities and three small cities. Experimental and control pairs were carefully matched. The results of this program were assessed in terms of six indicators: persistence in school, junior high school grades, senior high school grades, achievement test scores, assignment to a special school track, and attendance at academic or other special schools. On all six measures the performance of experimental pupils was judged superior to that of their matched control partners. The results of Middle Start indicate that even in the middle years of schooling, inner-city children can be helped significantly by skilful educational intervention.

Kirjassa tarkastellaan suomalaisen jalkapallon toimintaympäristöä eri toimijoiden silmin. Avainasioiden, haasteiden ja ratkaisujen käsittelyä tukevat faktat, suomalaisten ja ulkomaisten asiantuntijoiden näkemykset sekä pelaajatarinat.Kirja jakaantuu pelaajan uran kolmeen vaiheeseen; lapsuus (6-12 vuotta), nuoruus (13-16 vuotta) ja aikuisuus (17-21 vuotta). Jokaista jalkapallon uravaihetta käsitellään 3-6 keskeisen haasteen tulokulmasta.
