We all have stories, worlds we create from our love and laughter, our hatred and fear. Some of us simply visit them in our own imaginations, while others write them down and invite others to live there for a while. But what if the writer had special magic all her own? The true story of one individual's campaign against the big banks of America in an attempt to save the world's economy. Throughout world history, empires have collapsed due to widespread corruption and lack of accountability; unfortunately, Hoffman came to realize that America could follow this trend, but he remains determined to prevent that from ever happening. In his debut memoir, Hoffman exposes corruption within America's big banks while recounting his valiant campaign against it. A main focus of Rant is exposing how financial institutions manipulated oil prices following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 - an act that Hoffman believes set citizens back financially and ultimately became a factor behind the start of the Great Recession. In the following years, he embarked on an epic journey to bring this misdeed to the attention of senators, trade commissions, the FBI, and many others. Hoffman faced his fair share of resistance throughout his crusade against corruption, but he never allowed any roadblocks to deter his fight for the truth. With years of experience in macroeconomics, he's able to take complex concepts and write about them in a simple, yet entertaining way that will resonate with any reader. Rant sets a new standard for gripping, unforgettable memoirs. Don't miss out on the truth - read Rant today

M K Hammond

With 'Balm in Gilead', M. K. Hammond guides us through the life and the writings of the prophet Jeremiah recorded in the biblical book that bears his name. Soon after the Babylonians conquer Judah and appoint a new king in Jerusalem, Hammond notes, the prophet begins to keep a diary. Concurrently, he writes letters to his uncle Shallum, who is deported to Babylon with the first group of Hebrew captives. In what Hammond calls ""flashbacks,"" Jeremiah records memories from his early childhood, recalls his first temple sermon (delivered when he was only seventeen years old), and recounts episodes from the turbulent reigns of previous kings. His writings tell of sinful behavior he sees all around him, including idol worship, corruption among princes and priests, adultery, child sacrifice, and cannibalism. Hammond explores the tension between, on the one hand, Jeremiah's powerful sermons illustrated with striking visual signs and displays and, on the other hand, Jeremiah's agony over his call to be a prophet to whom no one listens. Jeremiah agonizes over his call because his enemies (including his own brothers) try to kill him. At times, even the Lord, it seems, has deserted him. Yet, Hammond asserts, the prophet finds hope when a new governor is appointed in Judah, and when his uncle tells him of the exiled Jews' loyalty to their God, even at risk of their lives. Jeremiah expresses hope for a new covenant with God, new leadership by faithful kings and priests, and return of all God's people to Zion. ""Marie Hammond has written a very creative work on the book of Jeremiah. She has attempted to set the material in some sort of chronological order (since the book itself is not arranged in that manner) and has done it with imagination while still being faithful to the original text. It is set in the form of letters written back and forth to one of Jeremiah's kinsmen in exile in Babylon. The book is clearly written and will be useful in Sunday School and other settings as well. She even brings a bit of 'romance' into Jeremiah's life It is well done and thoughtfully prepared."" --Dr. James M. Efird Professor Emeritus of Biblical Interpretation Duke Divinity School ""Words like jeremiad and balm in Gilead have entered into common usage, but the book of Jeremiah itself still presents something of a challenge. It is a relatively long book and written in a confused chronological order with considerable repetition. In meeting this challenge Hammond uses a literary device of a supposed find of several letters and a diary of Jeremiah. This device provides a context that brings Jeremiah to life and helps clarify the core value of his prophecies. Hammond's style of writing makes for interesting reading yet incorporates the major points of the text, often as direct quotations from the biblical book. Whether used as a supplement to the study of the book of Jeremiah or as an introduction, this re-working of the life of Jeremiah will help to direct the modern reader to a deeper understanding of the biblical text."" --Charles R. Young Professor Emeritus Duke University ""While remaining faithful to the biblical and historical material, Ms. Hammond has given us an interesting account of the life and times of Jeremiah. She has succeeded in making a scholarly work not only educational but entertaining as well. As a minister who was involved in teaching, I was grateful when I found resources that helped with presentation of difficult material in story form, made the order of chronological events understandable, and brought some uniqueness to an old familiar story; Balm in Gilead accomplishes this."" --Bess Hunnings Smith Pastor Emerita Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church Durham, North Carolina ""Balm in Gilead is a fascinating study of one of the most complex and intriguing of biblical characters. Marie Hammond provides a possible context for comprehending Jeremiah's life and prophecy. Her study/novel is a wonderful contribution, especia

An important overview of the state of the art in naturally occurring antimycotics! Here is a comprehensive and innovative examination of the antimycotic potential of essential plant oils and extracts against fungal infections affecting humans, animals, plants, and foodstuffs. Plant-Derived Antimycotics emphasizes the antimycotic activity of plants found in Central America, India, Nepal, Fiji, and China--areas rich in phyto-diversity and traditional botanical/medical knowledge. From editor M.K. Rai: “Since the inception of human civilization men have been using herbs against various mycotic infections. In the recent past, several antimycotic agents have been introduced into the market due to their rapid curative properties. Still, the quest for new antifungal agents of a fungicidal rather than fungistatic nature continues. Furthermore, there has been a dramatic increase in the new spectrum of fungal infections known as opportunistic fungal pathogens. Consequently, plant-derived antimycotics are gaining importance, being natural, cheaper, safer, eco-friendly, and within the reach of the common man.”With a distinguished list of contributors from around the world, Plant-Derived Antimycotics explores: antifungal compounds that strengthen plant-defense systems traditional herbs that have revealed their antifungal properties newer, faster methods of screening and evaluating antifungal drugs natural antimycotics derived from plants in Croatia, South America, South Africa, China, India, and Fiji the mechanism of herbal antimycotic action the diversity of antimycotic efficacy in Asteraceous and Meliaceous plants new bioactive antifungal moleculesPlant-Derived Antimycotics is an essential reference for pharmacologists, microbiologists, clinical mycologists, oncologists, immunologists, drug manufacturers, botanists and ethnobotanists, phytochemists, herbalists, and everyone searching for a natural remedy for the new spectrum of opportunistic fungal infections generated by the immunocompromising difficulties encountered by AIDS and cancer patients. Color illustrations, photographs, charts, tables, and graphs make the information easier to absorb and understand.

The stunning conclusion to the saga of a doomed civilization and the heroes who fight to save it. "Has the sweep and power of Asimov's Foundation." —Jean M. Auel, author of the Earth's Children series In an empire on the brink of implosion, the Society of the Phoenix is the only alternative to catastrophe, yet it is regarded by the rulers of the Concord as treasonable and a greater threat than the ominous rumblings of a Bond uprising. The Phoenix is led by Alex Ransom, once the first born of the House of DeKoven Woolf, but Commander Ransom now lies in an underground infirmary, critically wounded and comatose after a vital foray into Concord territory. Yet the mission of the Phoenix remains steadfast, and a new leader emerges: Jael the Outsider. Meanwhile, one of the original founders of the Phoenix, Dr. Erica Radek, fights for Ransom's life as hard as she fights for the survival of the Concord. Erica has a third mission: to find Lady Adrien Eliseer, who has vanished without a trace from the Two Systems. Erica knows that Adrien is the key to Alexand's survival. As war looms, the Concord must face the Phoenix, and only one will rise from the ashes.
