Merry Mari was written by Celia Siiri Laakso Hoyt as a loving tribute to her mother, Maria Sofia Kank np Laakso, after she died in 1986. This story is based on Maria's childhood and shows what it might have been like to be a young girl growing up in Finland during the early years of the twentieth century.

Jack Murad Sasson, distinguished scholar of the ancient Near East, has enjoyed a long career studying the cultures, languages, and literatures of that consequential region. His many books and articles span a seemingly endless array of topics and materials. Foremost are his in-depth analyses of the Syrian city of Mari and its remarkable heritage. Of comparable importance are his definitive studies of the Hebrew Bible, in particular his commentaries on the books of Judges, Ruth, and Jonah. In addition, the encyclopedic four-volume set he initiated and edited, Civilizations of the Ancient Near East, stands out as an exceptional contribution to peers, students, and the general public. To honor him and his scholarly achievements, thirty-five of his longtime colleagues and friends have collaborated to produce this volume of essays on such diverse cultures as Sumer, Babylonia, Assyria, the Amorites, Egypt, Ebla, the Hurrians, the Hittites, Ugarit, the Arameans, Canaan, and Israel. The studies in this volume display the richness of these cultures—their literary legacies, languages, political and social histories, material remains, religions and rituals, and history of ideas—as well as their reception in modern times. The volume is both a contribution to the evolving study of the ancient Near East and also a fitting tribute to Jack Sasson, whose friendship and scholarship we have long cherished and esteemed.
“Inside Mari is currently the standard for the body-swap genre.” —Makoto Shinkai, Director of Your NameCollege dropout Isao Komori wakes up one morning to find himself in the body of a high school girl, Mari Yoshizaki. How did this happen? Where is his body? And who exactly is this girl and what of the soul who previously inhabited the body he is possessing? Shuzo Oshimi is the best-selling author behind works such as Flowers of Evil and Happiness. His works mix in the struggles of youth along with modern fantasy themes.
It is becoming clear to Isao and Yori that finding Mari is going to take more time than expected. As the two continue their search they'll have to cooperate, despite their contrasting personalities, to preserve Mari's social life.
Mari’s life is starting to fall apart. She’s fallen out with her friends, teachers and family. So, with few clues as to where she has disappeared to, Isao and Yori turn their focus on the man currently living in the Komori apartment.
Komori’s apartment has led them to a dead-end. Yet, after days without a reasonable lead to Mari’s whereabouts, one finds them. Mari has called home! Where has she been? Why has she disappeared? And why did she decide to make contact now?
With an unexpected clue, Yori and Isao are to wait for further contact from Mari. Unfortunately, neither one of them is strong enough currently to handle this sudden turn of events. Their next step will be to settle their differences with the hope that they’ll better understand Mari’s troubles.
As "Mari" grows closer to Yori and Isao, it becomes apparent that the three may not be together for too much longer. The plan always was to join forces to find the real Mari; not collaborate to rescue Isao Komori from his pathetic life.
There is no turning back now, "Mari" has said good-bye to the person she knew as Isao Komori. But now this Mari must fully commit and accept the past of the body she inhabits. That includes the pain and the memories the Yoshizakis have been suppressing for years.
Without Isao in Mari's life her body is just a shell. But what caused this catatonic state is more than a disassociation from that college dropout. A peak at Mari's past reveals another side of her life that her family kept secret. Is that where the split truly began?
Isao has gone. Mom is gone. And suddenly life is better for Mari. But she is not complete. There is still a need for closure that burns within. Going home, to Isao's home, might provide that resolution. Embracing everything that has ever been inside Mari will be key.

This writing is to honor the many early post war immigrants who ventured from their birth place and familiar homeland, in search, for hopes of a better future. The hardships and sacrifices they endured can only be experienced in words. The historic reality would be unbearable in today's standards. They arrived in a vast foreign environment with only what they could carry in their hands. They had no guaranteed promises or security to comfort them. Most troubling of all, they were illiterate and had no means of verbal communication. They were adventurous, equipped with only strong will and strong backs. Their first and only priority was the minimal of food and sheltered protection from the elements for their family. Early periods were filled with days of uncertainty, hunger and sleeplessness.
