The Mindfulness and Mindbalancing Handbook

The Mindfulness and Mindbalancing Handbook

Reinhard Kowalski

Speechmark Publishing Ltd
2011
nidottu
This is a comprehensive resource for learning, practising and teaching meditation. Meditation is becoming a useful tool in the arsenal of the established healing professions. In particular Mindfulness meditation is recommended in the NICE guidelines as a treatment for depression and has proved helpful for a range of problems, including anxiety disorders and OCD. It can also be used with physical, psychosomatic and stress-related problems, and as a self-development programme. This handbook guides the reader into meditation practices in a systematic, gradual and practical way. It includes Cognitive Therapy exercises, reflections, relaxation, guided imagery, breathing exercises and a wide range of meditation practices from different traditions. It contains clear instructions on how to use the exercises and practices, as well as suggestions on how they can be used with individuals and in groups. It addresses the differing needs of readers, whether it is to 'dip into' meditation a little, to follow a programme, to learn about the spiritual aspects of meditation, or simply to create more peacefulness, calmness, groundedness and centredness in their own and in the lives of others. It includes downloadable resources for the reader to develop their own varied daily relaxation and meditation practices, as well as photocopiable worksheets, record-forms and audio exercises, so practitioners can read them out in groups or to individual clients, if they prefer to use their own voice. Meditation is a complex subject. This handbook provides a clear and practical guide that introduces the reader to the wider context of meditation, provides an optional deeper understanding of some of the concepts and models, and includes comprehensive resources for those who want to explore meditation further.
Ecotoxicology of Metals in Invertebrates

Ecotoxicology of Metals in Invertebrates

Reinhard Dallinger; Philip S. Rainbow

CRC Press Inc
1993
sidottu
Ecotoxicology of Metals in Invertebrates reviews the state of the art in research concerning metal exposure of marine, freshwater, and terrestrial invertebrates. The book focuses on the uptake and accumulation of essential and non-essential trace metals by invertebrates, metal detoxification and involved mechanisms, adaptations to metal stress, metal regulation and elimination, distribution and speciation of metals in different organs and tissues, and interaction of metals with biotic and abiotic factors. Toxicological studies involve histopathological, electron microscopic, physiological, and biochemical methods. The book emphasizes the ecological and ecotoxicological implications that can be derived from metal exposure of invertebrates in the field. The significance of background concentrations, the evaluation of critical concentrations, and the establishment of environmental quality criteria are discussed as well. Ecotoxicology of Metals in Invertebrates is an excellent reference for ecologists, ecotoxicologists, environmental scientists, ecophysiologists, and students.

Here's the only book to comprehensively address integrated optics from both the theory and practical modeling standpoints -- it reveals crucial design methods that decrease your overall device modeling effort.
Tangles

Tangles

Reinhard Diestel

Cambridge University Press

Tangles offer a precise way to identify structure in imprecise data. By grouping qualities that often occur together, they not only reveal clusters of things but also types of their qualities: types of political views, of texts, of health conditions, or of proteins. Tangles offer a new, structural, approach to artificial intelligence that can help us understand, classify, and predict complex phenomena. This has become possible by the recent axiomatization of the mathematical theory of tangles, which has made it applicable far beyond its origin in graph theory: from clustering in data science and machine learning to predicting customer behaviour in economics; from DNA sequencing and drug development to text and image analysis. Such applications are explored here for the first time. Assuming only basic undergraduate mathematics, the theory of tangles and its potential implications are made accessible to scientists, computer scientists, and social scientists.
Politics of (Dis)Integration

Politics of (Dis)Integration

Reinhard Schweitzer; Sophie Hinger

Saint Philip Street Press
2020
pokkari
This open access book explores how contemporary integration policies and practices are not just about migrants and minority groups becoming part of society but often also reflect deliberate attempts to undermine their inclusion or participation. This affects individual lives as well as social cohesion. The book highlights the variety of ways in which integration and disintegration are related to, and often depend on each other. By analysing how (dis)integration works within a wide range of legal and institutional settings, this book contributes to the literature on integration by considering (dis)integration as a highly stratified process. Through featuring a fertile combination of comparative policy analyses and ethnographic research based on original material from six European and two non-European countries, this book will be a great resource for students, academics and policy makers in migration and integration studies. Discovering Your Self

Discovering Your Self

Originally published in 1993, Discovering Your Self is a remarkable and original personal account which examines the psychological walls we build around us. In it, Reinhard Kowalski, a consultant clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, develops his model of psychotherapy and psychosynthesis in a personal, psychological, clinical and political way. The result is a psychological guide-book through an increasingly complex, changing and confusing inner and outer world. His exploration draws on re-formulated cognitive behaviour therapy, stress management, and psychosynthesis psychotherapy, as well as Leontyev’s activity theory, and the works of Grof, Wilber and Masterson. In addition, Douthwaite’s economic considerations and the process of German unification, with its symbolism of the ‘Wall coming down’, are discussed in a psychotherapeutic way. The discovery of ‘Self’ is seen as a process that needs to constantly to deal with ‘breaking walls and building bridges’ between the different aspects and levels of our being.Throughout the book there are experiential exercises and meditations, based in psychosynthesis, that are relevant for therapists and for individuals who are on their own journey of personal growth. The book aims at sharing with the reader ways and means of becoming conscious of our own inner ‘greenhouse’, the closed system within, and of breaking through the walls that we have built within us, around us, and between each other. The result is fascinating book that challenges our widely accepted views of ourselves in a practical and experiential way.

The Economy of Late Achaemenid and Seleucid Babylonia

The Economy of Late Achaemenid and Seleucid Babylonia

Reinhard Pirngruber

Cambridge University Press
2017
sidottu
In this book Reinhard Pirngruber provides a full reassessment of the economic structures and market performance in Late Achaemenid and Seleucid Babylonia. His approach is informed by the theoretical insights of New Institutional Economics and draws heavily on archival cuneiform documents as well as providing the first exhaustive contextualisation of the price data contained in the Babylonian Astronomical Diaries. Historical information gleaned from the accounts of both Babylonian scholars and Greek authors shows the impact of imperial politics on prices in form of exogenous shocks affecting supply and demand. Attention is also paid to the amount of money in circulation. Moreover, the use of regression analysis in modelling historical events breaks new ground in Ancient Near Eastern Studies and gives new impetus to the use of modern economic theory. The book explains the theoretical and statistical methods used so that it is accessible to the full range of historians.
Relativistic Figures of Equilibrium

Relativistic Figures of Equilibrium

Reinhard Meinel; Marcus Ansorg; Andreas Kleinwächter; Gernot Neugebauer; David Petroff

Cambridge University Press
2012
pokkari
This book treats the classical problem of gravitational physics within Einstein's theory of general relativity. It presents basic principles and equations needed to describe rotating fluid bodies, as well as black holes in equilibrium. It then goes on to deal with a number of analytically tractable limiting cases, placing particular emphasis on the rigidly rotating disc of dust. The book concludes by considering the general case using powerful numerical methods that are applied to various models, including the classical example of equilibrium figures of constant density. Researchers in general relativity, mathematical physics, and astrophysics will find this a valuable reference book on the topic. A related website containing codes for calculating various figures of equilibrium is available at www.cambridge.org/9781107407350.
